I haven't had any joy with the Voxengo products yet, mainly because you have to pay for them for them to work properly. I've been trying to work within the limitation of using what I already have and being able to do good work with it before I start expanding too much. Also, I'm of the opinion that it's better to invest in your front-end than in plugins at the stage I'm at.

Try deleting the mono plugins as well.

"That's a bingo!!"

It was one plugin in particular - Blue Cat's frequency analyst. I've been using 64 bit so can't use any waves plugins and have been using either bundled plugins from cakewalk, or else free stuff. It's the best freeware frequency analyst I've tried, but now I know the mono version has this weird side-effect on buses. Strange. None of the other mono plugins I used on stereo buses did that.

Thanks for the suggestion. Forehead-smacking time.

This comment caught my eye - why can't you use Waves on 64-bit? Do you have a very old version or something?
Not that the PAZ is actually any good with modern screen resolutions. Melda probably has a decent free analyst. There's also Voxengo SPAN and the PC QC EQ of course for basic stuff.

What does the Blue Cat offer that makes it so special?

Because I had a cracked version of Waves 5 I was using before. The earlier stuff is not compatible with 64bit for the most part. I'm glad in a way though - I don't really want to use cracked stuff anymore, and not using waves is forcing me to be more resourceful about which plugins I use.

The BC analyst is 'the best' one I've tried because it's free and I can see what is going on with it. I prefered the Waves one, but it's not unworkable.

Voxengo Span is free and works perfectly inside Sonar.

It's also available as a VST3

Another "+1" for SPAN. I don't find it limiting at all. Works great.

Another one to look at is Melda Production MMultiAnalyzer. It's on sale right now for like $30. I messed with it a bit yesterday: pretty impressive!
