Thanks for the replies folks ( Really, despite my aggrivated frustrated and completely annoyed state ) I appreciate your replies, Now ... here's the scoop.
I have been using sonar since version 3, I have become quite efficient at doing what i do without the need for relearning the damn interface every time, but i put up with a certain amount of it each time I upgrade, this time I was, and still am quite pissed off and frustrated because I can't afford wasting time relearning the whole damn program in order to find a convoluted way of not using an option I dont particularly need or want right now ... so for those of you telling me to read the manual or go watch some tutorials or spend some time with it... thanks but Im not a newbie and for me TIME IS MONEY!... and for those upset by my bashing the programmers, i guess your the programmers, buddies or family of the programmers and therefore sympathetic to them RE: my message, because i was under the illusion this was a " Community USER forum "  and for anyone who doesn't get my point it is simply this...Adding "OPTIONS" is great and fantastic, just allow me the user / purchaser the choice! Thats why they are called OPTIONS because they are OPTIONAL, what would it really take a class a programmer to write the code for an on off button ( 5 - 10 minits work ) while I have wasted a few hours of time fooling around and " Reading the manual by the way "  to try to find a way to turn it off which is why I ended up here in the first place!
So once again if your a user who has replied Thanks, if your an employee or have a connection please let them know that I am not the only one who is unhappy with this .. I know of at least 3 others i have talked to that hate the fact that you can't just clik on an X and close it out ...

If "time is money" as you say, then spending some time to learn new functions in any new version of a software is the best way to save time, and save yourselfe a lot of frustration. I would say that if time is so important, then reading the manual will be an investment. If you don't have this time then why did you upgrade??

Yeah, that's a ridiculous position. Time is money to me too, so I try to make sure I know what I'm doing.

I was A: thanking those who took the time to reply b: answering to replies that posed questions and reiterating my issue that was the original question c: for those suggesting that other versions of sonar might be what i need ... I have already purchased this upgrade as I have always had producer and why would i now go and purchase another? d: explaining that I have already read the manual in regard to the multidock and found no help there and thus came here for the first time which is why I nhave a limited number of posts ( because i have always been able to figure things out without help by going to the manual ) my time and my money is limited and I don't appreciate it being wasted by the presumption by the programmers that this " improvement ' should be accepted without question regardless of the time and effort required to assimilate it.

Some people here wish there was that X for some posts too.

Seriously though G.E.L. I'm curious where you specifically read Multidock is an OPTION? Skylight is not an OPTION (AFAIK) just as Multidock is not an OPTION (AFAIK).

I get that you (and three others) don't like it but calling it somthing it is NOT is not really an OPTION, IMHO.

well if it's NOT an option what exactly is it, are you saying that this " function" has been placed into the program and i have no CHOICE but to use it wether i want to or not? because that is the crux of my initial question... complaint and cause of frustration ... I noticed other replies here feel the same way ... This is not the way to " serve your customers, by forcing them to relearn and assimilate something because the programmers think it's a great idea ( and perhaps for some it is, for me its not ) so if it's not an OPTION as you say, perhaps it should be?

In previous versions double clicking would bting the now marker to the point reqired and highlighted the track no? then you could split at that point or proceed to do whatever you inteded to do from that point. when one becomes accustomed over a long period of usage its annoying to do something from a learned habit and find it does something else.

Yeah - it's called LEARNING a new GUI. Which we have all had to do.

If you could calm down and stop ranting, and actually explain what specific problem you're having, people could probably help you. You're not in any way forced to use the multi-dock and there are all kinds of ways of not using it if that's your thing. What there isn't is a global off button for it, so that's a deal line of discussion. Now, since time is money, apparently, do you want to spend it going ITS JUST NOT FAIR , or do you want to describe an actual real world problem you're having that we can maybe help with?

Double clicking to move the now time has never been default behaviour. If you had it like that, it must have been a setting you customised.

Roger did you actually "Read" my post... here's an excerpt "I have wasted a few hours of time fooling around and " Reading the manual by the way " to try to find a way to turn it off which is why I ended up here in the first place!
Thanks for the insults and just so you can all feel happy re your superior intillect and due to the condescending nature of the replies from those who deem themselves the guru's who should be a bit more underdstanding of the frustration of another user who has asked a question as the last resort, None of you need bother yourselves with replying further.

I don't think the programmers are the ones "wasting" your time - they simply put something out there, and you had the choice whether you wanted to buy it or not.  I have been using Cakewalk since version 3 on DOS as well, and to be honest was quite happy with 8.5.3.  However, I did a little research, discovered that X1 had some features that I thought I could use, and decided that it would be worth "wasting" my time to learn the new interface.  Personally, I'm glad I did, because there are a lot of things in X1 that I think are brilliant changes to the old Microsoft-dictated UI paradigm, and I am happy to learn something a little different.  If you: (a) did your research, and (b) read the forum posts, then you knew it was going to be different, and you knew what was going to be coming ... so why buy it?  Why not just stick with what you had?  Just because Adobe cranks out a new version of Photoshop every so often doesn't mean that I have to run out and buy it if the old version still suits my purposes.  Sorry, I just don't get the complaint.

Did you berate Microsoft for changing their flagship browser? What about MS Office? Did they consult their user base about future updates?

If you've been around for as long as you say, then you would know that when Cakewalk initiated a user survey a couple of years ago, the overwhelming opinion on this forum was that the GUI needed a radical overhaul.

So it seems that Cakewalk are damned if they do listen to their users and damned if they don't.
