  • How do you keep a Todo list for your projects?

I'm looking for some advice. I know many people that frequent this forum have great ideas and much more experience than I have.

Q: How do you keep a list of Todo's for your project?

Here's a sample scenario:
  • I'm writing and/or arranging a project and during a playback, I notice that the French Horns need some tweaking at measures 32 - 36. I want to remember to come back to it later without interrupting what I'm working on now.
My solutions:
  1. Put notes in the project info window, or
  2. Keep a separate text file or spreadsheet with my todos
I wish I could put a note at measure 32 in the track view, but the best I can come up with is to change the background color of the clip so I know it needs attention.

Does anyone have any better ideas?

Thanks,

Dave

WordPad. In fact, each project has at least one corresponding WordPad document which contains a variety of notes, tips, reminders, etc. Allows me to review each overall project away from my main DAW or laptop DAW. Plus, obviously, there is immediate access at the DAW machine whenever needed. Works perfectly for me.

I would change the clip's name to "Need some tweaking." I have many short clips in a project and those that are complete and don't need further editing have just "O" (representing a circle which means correct or perfect in my country), those whose notes need to be humanized (randomized) later have just "%," etc. etc. Clip names and background colors are both visually very helpful.

Sometimes I use markers (if what I need to type is not very long) - something like "French horns need editing on track x", or "may need to brighten the brasses on track x", etc.  At least that way you can use the marker list to go directly to where the edits are needed.

Sounds like a feature suggestion. A really nice feature would be a sticky note that could be pasted onto the track, like comments in Excel, with the ability to hide and search the notes.

I used this for a while, but I am not even sure it will work in recent Sonar versions.

And, use the info view for project notes.

- Locking clips that are "fully completed".

- A single letter A - Z for the clips that has various meanings. The letter is shown in the eventlist.
