  • Anyone successfully using multiple ASIO interfaces simultaneously?

Before I go down this rabbit warren I figured I ask the collecting wisdom here.

I know that ASIO itself does not support multiple interfaces. I know that there are software solutions (ASIO4All among others) that claim to do so.

I'm wondering if it can really be done.

Thanks!

To the best of my knowledge it can not be done.  ASIO4all is not ASIO it is a wrapper that gives the impression of an ASIO interface but talks WMD or WDM or even DMW to windows and ASIO to the software.

Depends on the supplier of the interface driver. ASIO restricts the host to one driver not one interface. For example, Roland provides a driver for running two Studio Capture interfaces concurrently.

You've been able to chain PreSonus firewire interfaces for years.  The issue is the driver not the interface.

If your audio interface driver supports using multiple interfaces, it effectively presents the multiple interfaces as a single ASIO device. This is the only reliable means of running multiple audio interfaces.  No clocking issues, no offset issues, etc

M Audio, up to 4 Delta 1010's, Delta 44's, Delta 66's etc etc . . . .
I also believe you can mix, 1010's  44's, 66's etc (could be wrong on that' but I'm sure I read it, could unplug a 1010 and try it, but I aint gonna)

Just to add, seeing as it's the driver that provides the ability for multiple devices it means devices from the same manufacturer are required. The manufacturer usually will specify which devices can be concatenated.

RME is one of many companies that allows you to combine multiple devices that use the same driver.

Another way to do it also is to have a single interface that supports ADAT IO so that you can connect multiple additional inputs/outputs which will show up in your driver and thus in Sonar.

I daisy chain two MOTU 8Pres'.

No problems. I use ASIO.

I would really like to be able to use multiple ASIO devices from different makers at the same time.  My primary interface is a Tascam US-16x08.  It's awesome.

However, I also have BOSS GT-001 that sports re-amping capability via USB, a THR10 with dry+wet pairs available via USB, and now a Laney IRT Studio with direct dry recording and re-amping support via USB.  In order to use one of these, I have to take the 16x08 out - which has my monitors connected, blah, blah.

Anyway, you get the idea ...

Prior to getting the 16x08 I experimenting with aggregation via ASIO4ALL.  It worked after much fiddling about, but the performance wasn't something I could live with.  So I don't use the cool features some of my external hardware has.

The only way out of this that I can think of is to add a Mac to the mix for tracking with these other devices.  But that would be expensive and I'm not sure if the alleged I/O aggregation capability of Mac really works as well in practice as the stories I've heard.

Maybe Windows 10 will address this.

Also using one Octa Capture or Studio Capture units with A VS 100 or VS 700 as expansion inputs works as well.
