  • Off kilter display: NVIDIA GEforce210, Win7, LG flatscreen. Need to nudge to the right

Sorry for the OT but this has been driving me NUTS for years and now needs to be fixed due to AD2's extra wide GUI.

The simple question is... how in the heck can I fine tune the display coming from the PC onto the monitor slightly downward and to the right?

Explanation: I have an NVIDIA GEForce 210 video card (a cheapo that I can't seem to access a utility for), running Win 7 (up to date) and I am running it through the VGA output on the card to an LG 20LS7D flat panel TV/monitor.

Up until now I have been using an aspect ratio on the monitor and in Windows that produced two large black bars on either side of the screen. It was annoying but everything fit and was in perspective... until AD2 which is the only program I own that was wider than the ratio/aspect.

This got me wanting to fix this once and for all but now I am realizing why I was using those settings. I have the monitor and windows set up to the proper aspect/ratio/resolution/etc. It's using the full screen and everything is looking normal EXCEPT on the left side and top side of the screen things are cut off ever so slightly (like I can see my Recycle Bin but it say "cycle Bin" and it is smooshed to the top more than usual and on the right side I can see a white line where my taskbar is hidden... yes I keep my task bar on the right side and have Auto Hide selected).

All I want to do is nudge it down and to the right a bit but freaking Windows doesn't seem to allow this (AFAICT), I have gone through ALL the monitor options (and even download the LG manual which is how I got this proper aspect ratio in the first place) and I can seem to find a utlity program for the GEForce 210 video card (which is perhaps why the darn thing only cost me $20).

Anyway... if ANYONE has some suggestions as to where I can look for this type of fine adjustment control I would be ever so greatful. I have been googly moogling for about an hour now and I ain't coming up with an answer to this.

I am posting this in the Sonar forum because it does indeed affect my Sonar user experience and it will get mroe eyes here but I will understand if it gets moved to Computers.

Thank you.

Cheers.

You don't have the NVIDIA Control Panel? It has a screen resizing function, though I've never used it.

That's kind of what I have been looking for and I guess I assumed when I installed the card drivers any utilites would be included. Just to check... could you point me to where I would find this? It is not in my programs list or anywhere I can find in the Control Panel. It may be buried somewhere.

If I cannot find it I will see if maybe there is an additional download I can snag. Otherwise this may be, as I said, the reason I was able to get this vid card for so cheap.

Thank you.

And for reference... under the NVIDIA section in the Programs Menu there are only entries for the 3D Viewer stuff.

Edit... Hang on. I just realized I had the manual for the card in my "special" closet and there is an entry about the control panel. Pretty sure I already tried this originally but I'm going to check this out again.

BRB... and thank you. You knocked something loose in my noodle.

Okay... I think I see what is going on. I must have not installed the "Gigabyte EasyBoost" system which seems to be the utility for this card. Gonna see what's up with that.

Thanks, Chappel. You got me pointed in, what seems to be, the right direction. I'll update shortly.

Cheers.

This does not relate to your issue, but might help someone who stumbles on this thread via search. I had a problem with a monitor cutting off the right part of the image. No control panel setting would fix it. Turns out the monitor itself had a button to "auto-center" the display; invoking that solved the problem.

I recall that the control panel always came with the installation disk with the video card and I can't find any page to download it from on the NVIDIA website. There are websites that claim to have it but I can't really recommend any of them. Could be legit, could be malicious. I do recommend installing the GeForce Experience utility because it can automatically update your video card drivers.

For troubleshhoting I would certainly say that is something to look into before screwing around with stuff like I am right now and is what I was doing earlier. Ther simply does not seem to be a control for that on this monitor.

Good call though, Craig and I do hope this thread helps others... even if they aren't Sonar users or even DAW users. The Googles weren't coming up with much.

It sounds more like a monitor problem than a card problem, I run 210's in both my studio PC's and I have not seen such a problem on all of the different monitors I have gone through.

I've got the disk but I'm sure it's on Gigabyte's website (and there is probably an updated version as well). The problem is when I built the system I was trying to avoid overloading it with unnecessary crap (for example I made the foolish mistake of installing the ASUS utility which is of no use to me and refuses to be removed so now it basically acts as "annoyanceware" every time I boot the system).

Funny thing, all I was doing today was reading up on my Korg padKontrol to learn more about it's features and to get it working properly with the Librarian software. I started scouting around for manuals to just drop on my laptop which led me to find a bunch of driver updates. I snagged all of those then was going to work with AD2 to test things out... which reminded me about my display issues... which I am now obsessed with correcting once and for all.

Rabbit hole, yo. lulz

It's good though. My back is too fuxxored to do any guit tracking so this is keeping me busy.
