How are you connected to the monitor... VGA or S-Video cable? I don't know if using HDMI would change the way your screen fits but you might get better, and crisper, color and picture since it wouldn't be going through analog to digital conversion. I've bought several HDMI cables from Amazon at some surprisingly low prices. The trick is to order at least $35 worth of qualifying stuff to get free shipping.

It's VGA (for a second I thought it was DVI from the PC to VGA but that's my old computer's setup). I can't recall if I've got S-Video hookups on both the card and the TV (not going to wrench my back checking) but perhaps that's a better option. Crummy part is I SHOULD have these types of cables around from back in the day (I have a massive collection of various cabling) but I guess I either gave those away in my big purge a few years ago before I built this rig or never had them because I didn't need them at the time.

Anyway... I guess at this point is more just tweaking my self diagnosed OCD (lol) than actually causing any real problems. It seems like I can get at everything I need (so far). It just looks stupid and I get annoyed when I can't get things working exactly as they should. This monitor/tv is kind of weird one as it is and I think, based on the manual, I'd have more onboard control VIA the remote (which the person who gave it to me lost). Perhaps there is an extra setting in there that could fix it... perhaps not. It does other weird stuff too like if I leave it turned on after I shut down it'll "wake up" and switch to TV mode with the sound blasting which, since there is no cable hooked up to it, is REALLY loud static. This generally happens hours later when I'm in bed and the first time it happened it scared the piss out of me. I always turn of my power bar after shut down though so that only happens if I forget.

Anyway, you got me about as close as I can get to solving the issue so thanks for that and thanks to everyone else for popping in and helping too. Not sure why the frack that NVIDIA utility wasn't showing up but now it is and I've got fresh drivers to boot.

Sorry, padKontrol. I'll have to unlock your plethora of annoying mysteries another day.

Amazon has a few universal remotes that claim to work with the LG 20LS7D, all under $20. All it has to do is to be able to scroll through and select on-screen options. The TV coming on sounds like "On Time" is enabled. When that is set the TV will come on if it is in standby mode, which it would be in after it loses its computer input signal. What you need enabled is the "Auto Shut-Off Setting" which turns the TV off after 10 minutes of receiving no input signal. Pgs 59-61 of the manual cover that aspect.

You might be able to access all the menus through the front panel buttons on your TV. From what I can see they duplicate the relevant buttons on the remote. Menu, Enter, Volume=Left/Right, Channel=Up/Down.
