I'm new here and excuse me for the bad English, it's not my mothertongue.
 
When i run sonar with only one octa-capture, i'm able to set the cursor at position 1 in the octa-capture driver setting (corresponding to 96 samples). Everything is working fine, even after hours of non-stop recording.
 
When i add my second octacapture, choosing a setting unter the position 6 will bring problems : after several minutes (sometimes 3 minutes, sometimes 15 minutes, ...) the audio engine stops. It occurs in the record mode or in the playback mode. Even playing a empty project (without audio data) will show the same problem. When the transport is stopped (no playback, no recording, the monitoring sound is OK, no drop-out nor distorsion, ...). In the octa-capture spécifications, it is written that you can link two octa-capture without a loss of performance !!!!
 
My question for you who are working with two oct-capture : do you expereince the same problem.
 
My hardware configuration is : lap-top with i7 4710, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD connected with two octa-capture audio interface.
The lap-top is new and no other application than Sonar has been installed. Internet, Bluetooth and wifi are disabled. No other USB than the two octacapture.

Here is the latest system program and drivers for the Octa-capture:

You will need to update both of your interfaces with the system program.
 
Also consider going here to (esp) update your chipset drivers:
http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect?iid=dc_iduu
 
And consider a BIOS update for your motherboard..
There will be other suggestions but I would try this as a first step.

Both my octa-capture and my laptop are up to date, I have checked.
I can imagine how many thousand  and more configurations of hardware are to be found on earth, so i would not expect to receive the solution to my problem. Everybody has is own problems with his hardware, drivers, etc.
 
What would be nice is to get an answer from someone who has two octa-capture and sonar and can tell me if a set up of the the cursor on position smaller than 6 in the octa-capture driver setting is working.
If yes, then I know that i have to search for a solution. If no, then i know that is an utopia and i can go to have a good sleep.

The only I would recommend is:
 
Upgrading motherboard BIOS.
Run intel driver update (assuming you are on Intel)...

Running windows update.
Also check your USB ports for USB 2 or 3.
 
You may be better off in the hardware forums (this really should be moved)

I'm not using 2 Octa-Captures but 1 Octa-Capture + 1 VS-700 in VS EXPAND mode, which I assume is what you are also using as this is the way to link these devices ...
 
My experiences are:

• It works fine, even at low ASIO buffer settings (2 or 3) ... I usually set it to ASIO setting 3 (48 samples) because any smaller doesn't bring any further advantage ...
• I record with all the I/O as documented at 44.1 kHz and switched to 96 kHz last year and it also works ...
• I do have occasional stability issues when using Kontakt (which has been improved lately but is still not 100% fixed - but not a Sonar problem, this is Octa-Capture driver vs. NI code ...)

However  ...

• It took a while to get it set up properly ... for a long time drivers were not capable of doing it properly (128 samples was the lowest I could go), then with Octa-Capture v1.5.1 it started working (firmware 1.5) but the now available v1.5.2 had some quirks with the VS-700 so I reverted to Octa-Capture driver v1.5.1 ... you may have to look if you can find this driver and try if it is performing better as in my case ...
• You need to have the sync properly in place ... you need a digital COAX cable to sync the units (one must be master, one the slave, check documentation on VS EXPAND) ... you need to follow the guidelines of the manual closely (which COAX out to which COAX in!!!) so that the clocks can be really locked together (to me your problem sounds like a clock problem i.e. both units running, but not properly synced) ... I had seen something similar before I established a proper sync ...
• If you run a second COAX cable back from the remaining COAX in/outs you will cause a loop and then syncing will not work, either. I could circumnavigate this by running the 2nd COAX connection through another digital device to break the direct loop ... but if you don't need to send some signals back (e.g. for direct monitoring) I would recommend you only use one COAX cable exactly as outlined in the manual ...

I checked all your advices :  my software and hardware configurations seem to be OK, the only thing that i have to change is the cable linking the two octa-captures. In fact, i use now a very basic audio RCA cable, I will order and try with a real high quality coax cable.
This will be for beginning of next week.

Using a real digital coaxial cable doesn't solve the problem.
I will close the thread here because it seems that the problem comes from the octa-captures that cannot speak together :-(

It's up to you if you really want to give up on this, but the Octa-Capture and its drivers were designed for this - so you should get it to work somehow ...
 
... especially as the Octa-Capture is still being sold there should also be customer support from Roland on this topic ...
