I would personally be content if all the little ghost devils (read "glitches")
that have plagued this great (I still believe) program, since it's inception, where gone.

E.G: From Sonar 2XL up to 6, if you had the midi activity icon in the taskbar,
Sonar.exe would refuse to terminate when you exited the program.

EG: From Sonar X1 to present day;
I can still launch Sonar Platinum on my high powered,
well configured DAW, add an audio track, open the Inspector,
switch to the Pro Channel tab and
EXPECT  the Console Emulator and Tube Saturation console graphics to be
malformed and grey with no information  contained.

IOW, I just want the core features to work as advertised,
QUIETLY, and with FREEDOM FROM "WORKAROUNDS"

In Cakewalk's defense...

I Have a Casual Relationship with coding.
I suspect that most of the unsolved/unsolvable to this point
problems with this (I say again) great program has
have to do with the pit bull-like death grip that
Sonar and the STUPID  Microsoft C++ Redistributables
have on Each Other.

Submitted for the JURY(forum)...

Every time they update that POS it breaks something in Sonar.

Can we not just get rid of the old hag?

The drum replacer is something that I could have used at one time or another but I got the job done with Audio Snap. I still think that it's a good tool to have in your tool chest. The on screen keyboard, not so much. I won't even install it if given the choice. I can't remember what the third item in line was but I know that it didn't interest me much.

I'm more about workflow improvements like others have already mentioned and posted by myself and others in the FR forum.

I think that the features listed in the what's up next in Platinum are going to be the extent of the big features that we're going to see for the first year cycle on the new membership plan.

As Craig hints it probably isn't but I wish it was, as that would make more time for bug fixes and workflow/performance improvements. So far opinion seems to side heavily towards these categories.

Cakewalk will definitely be emphasizing improvements to the core functionality, but also remember that the people working on bug fixes and such aren't necessarily the same people who create the new features. One doesn't always exist at the expense of the other.

I'm quite happy with my purchase as is, if all we got was bug fixes for the rest of the year, I'd still be a happy camper. Anything above and beyond that is a bonus, which I would be happy and thankful to receive :)

I think that the features listed in the what's up next in Platinum are going to be the extent of the big features that we're going to see for the first year cycle on the new membership plan. They will finish putting these out through the course of the year. Scattered in there will be samples and other throw away (YMMV) content. I made the decision to get in on the ground floor of the membership plan to stay current, not knowing what to expect. But if this will be what to expect, I can wait and see before renewing for year 2 of the membership program. It was actually the XLN offer that helped me make the decision to upgrade, because I was happy with X3.

I agree, this upgrade package, at least so far, is very disappointing compared to X3. I didn't buy it and I've seen nothing in the first two updates to make me wish I had. The happy clappers seem happy, but then again they always are.

X3 was great, I stopped way back at Pro Audio 8/9, kept upgrading through out, but not using, just checking it out every now and then while I spent a bit of time with Pro Tools, and the majority of the time with Reaper. Then X3 came along, and as usual I checked it out, and jumped ship back to sonar. To me Sonar Platinum is X3 and more, how much more I guess is up to you, but it has things that make life a little easier, added stuff like Rematrix, the Anderton stuff, mix recall etc etc, litle things here and there. And for $149 ($180AU), what's that ?, 6 packets of smokes if your a smoker, blow more than that for one night down the pub, and I got the latest version of something I like to use as long as I like, with more to come. Some stuff like AD2 are of no interest to me because 1, I already own it and most of it's addons, and 2, I don't have a very high opinion of it, I use something that in my opinion is infinitely better. For me it was having the latest version, the fixes that come with it, the rest of the stuff that is bundled in that I actually like and will use is a bonus, as is whatever else comes along.

I guess you can't please everyone, but I am glad I updated. I couldn't/wouldn't go back to X3 now. as good as it was for me. As usual Frown Town residents seem down, but then again, they always are.
