  • Track clips "Busy" message on clips won't go away - reappears whatever you do? (p.2)

Are all projects working this way or just one project?

All projects.

And I did new tests now - even just recording a couple of handclaps on a Normal project template.
Also rename default audio track name, since picture file is based on that also.
Records fine - and looks fine.
Close project and reopen - Busy is back.
Recompute pictures - then busy is gone.
If file is missing on loading project - busy first on and then goes away when done.
Close project and reopen - Busy is back.

I thought maybe some reference was made and written when recording - but it seems the same.

Funny thing is that I see a new timestamp of wov file every time I open project.
If it maybe stores a opening timestamp, or something.

Some funny code for Artist only that is affected, I thought.
So ran the same thing in X3 and even Sonar Studio 8.5.3 on same computer - same thing.

I tried change to English setting for Sonar as I opened it. Seems W7 store that with each program you run so it remembers for each process somehow.

Is it something with time zones or something - that filetimes are not local times and compared.

And thought for sure this Save Copy As would do the trick.

But no - if starting with the assigned picture cache where empty from Wov files - it builds and no Busy in clips.
But closing project and open again - it's back.

After Save Copy As and closing the original project, are you making sure you open the copy? Save As will update your recent files list so the new project is referenced, but with Save Copy As, you'll need to deliberately navigate to the new project file.

The original will still be broken in either case, and whatever the cause because it's going to still be referencing the old picture files. Maybe SONAR has trouble reading some old pic files. I think I had some old projects that did that until I resaved them with new pictures.

Yes, thanks I did use open then, and changed name of project to see if listed in recently used etc.
I guess part of Save Copy is that existing project remains loaded.

Created a project in Sonar 8.5.3
a) opened in S4 - all ok
b) open in X3 or Artist - busy

Created a project in Sonar X3

Created a project in Sonar Artist

I also imported a longer audio file in these projects so you clearly see when it's being rebuilt or just redrawn.

Do all SONAR versions have their picture cache on the same drive/partition?

Thanks.

I moved them around quite a bit after this was discovered, to try and eliminate that they run the same picture files.

One clue is that picture files always update timestamp when loading a project with Artist or X3 - which are having busy issue.

Sonar 8.x studio - does not do that - and it works.

Using longer clips, like 30 MB or something, you clearly see difference in speed when doing recompute+draw and just doing redraw. So Artist and X3 - they find the picture files - but something odd happends after loading project - timestamp is updated and busy text is not removed from clips.

This could be entry level versions only thingy, some code that not Pro or Plat run.

I have CWBRN on things I know are faulty, just with Artist and X3 too - so I would not be suprised.

Could also be a dll common to X3 and Artist, that make X3 have this also.
I think I will try and see with ProcessExplorer what dll's are opened with each of them.

A few things to consider:

1. Does Audiosnap enable/disable/stretched status play into this at all?

2. Have you zoomed out enough to see the entire clip(s)? I've observed in the past that sometimes the 'Busy' doesn't go away until SONAR has to display the entire clip.

3. Maybe try toggling Display Clip Contents and or Maximize Waveform Height in the View menu.

Thanks for suggestions. Zoomed entire clips but no change - busy stays.
As I looked at it - it seems the busy thing is put there to tell it's working with something - so be patient, kind of.
Then finalizing what it's doing - it's supposed to remove that.

So something goes wrong at the end of draw existing picture files.
Some little exception not handled or something - so busy is never removed.
And this that picture file gets new timestamp - does not seem logical.

Artist does not have Audiosnap, or?

But found this running ProcessExplorer - since some things are common to X3 and Artist:

For some reason, X3 open two dll's in Artist folder - DshowProxy.dll and Stretch.ax - if they are at all related to anything with calculating picture files. Both dll's timestamped March 4th 2015. Must be some dependancy in common there.

Both also open same DeWire.dll.

If related to picturedrawing it could explain why my X3 also got this feature - since both use these dll's and ax-filter. And dll's are a week old, and my X3e a year old.

So don't know if there is a special build of these dll's for Artist that is not having Audiosnap etc - and thereby has a bug in the code shipped for Artist version?
Some code is not run at the end - and a possible exception maybe.

Starts to feel we are in the right realm to narrow down...

Hmmm... curiouser and curiouser. Stretch.ax is the old Time/Pitch Stretch DX plugin that was 32-bit only. Could be part of the problem, but if it was used in an old 32-bit project, then you should get a warning that it's not available in x64 . See this thread in any case:

Sorry to be late. I've been REALLY busy and also needed to 'refresh' myself.

I always saw this issue in X2 Essential and X3 base version (don't remember X1 Essential) and could never fix it.
But it just disappeared when I upgraded to Platinum.

My PC, audio interface and Preferences settings have always been the same and I've been using just one Picture Cache folder for all versions, so this must be an issue specific to the entry versions.

Hey, Tak. Sure sounds like that might be the case.
