  • Playing song prompts me to save it upon completion-even if no changes are made

I've never seen this behavior before.  I have a project that prompts me to save it after playing the song even if no changes are made.  IOW, the asterisk next to the song title appears when the song is over.  I'm using X2, and the only plugs I'm using are Breverb, TH2, and Superior Drummer.  I have other projects with these same plugs, and this behavior doesn't occur.  There is automation on the Breverb, which is used on a bus, but I don't think it has anything to do with this problem.  If I stop the song before it gets to the end, this doesn't occur.  I've looked through the event list for anything, but there's nothing there to indicate any changes.  Has anyone seen this before, and if so, any idea on how to cure this?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Try to do a save as not a save just to be safe and be able to go back if you run into trouble.

In the case you describe it could be due to a change in some VST.

I've seen this before Lynn, in several previous versions.

I don't think it's anything to worry about, just take John's advice and do a Save As

Thanks for your quick response.  I just tried you idea of doing a "save as" before playing the song, but the asterisk still appeared on completion.  I, too, thought of a problem with a VST, but I'm only using the 3 plugs that I stated in my first post.  I've used these 3 plugs on the last 2 projects I recorded with no problems.  BTW, I did a "save as" when the song completed, too.  Jonesey, I agree that this is nothing to worry about, but it is curious.

Just thinking out loud here - have you got any Audiosnap clips? They might be re-generating transients every time you open the project, even though you've done no work on it

Jonesey, there's no audio snap at all, in fact, I've never used it.

I wonder if automation moves are triggering Sonar to think something has changed? This happens in X1d as well whenever I playback or even export a song. i'be pretty much just leanned to ignore it.

I see this all the time and it's really annoying when you're using the playlist in a "live" situation. All the songs you play that do this stay loaded until you answer the question "Save?" If a lot of these songs pile up, the computer starts to bog down. I do tend to think that "automation" may be causing it as the one's that do this have automation in them.

I think you're right about the automation.  The frustration is that it doesn't happen in all projects that use automation.  I'll treat it as just a minor annoyance and not lose sleep over it.

Lynn, et al,

If the automation is on a synth, have you tried freezing the tracks?
