• SONAR
  • Export all audio that arrives at one selected bus (p.2)

Obviously there is a legitimate issue here, but I am having a bit of trouble understanding.  So, you do have to Select All: Sonar always wants to know the time range for the export and I don't think there is a way around that.

Once you do that, you can select the desired bus(es) in the Export dialog box.  It is not necessary to solo or mute anything.

I don't see how it could be simpler except for not requiring you to select a time range.

Apologies if I am missing something.

SONAR does not require any selection at all. There is no requirement to specify a time range, by default SONAR will export through the last event. The exception is the case described by SilkTone of a plug-in which is generating audio without input. This it will require some extra work to create the export.

because I cannot deselect all the pre-selected tracks with one click

You can deselect all by using menu item Edit|Select|none (I have actually assigned this to a key combination)

He means the list of buses in the export dialog. When you choose Buses as the source they are all selected by default, and the ones you don't want all have to be deselected individually. Easier to solo (but not select) the bus you want and export Main Outs.

Your first post indicated you made a selection

Whenever I select the desired bus and choose "Export", it says that the selection does not contain any audio. The time selection is set to the complete song.

Nope, that was what I did after not selecting anything did not work. I then selected the bus in question and tried again - with the described result.

Don't select the bus. Don't select anything. Open the Export dialog and select the bus from the pick list when the Source Category drop down is set to Buses.

I try to explain it again (btw, the project contains only audio material - I don't do any MIDI stuff in Sonar):

1. I set the time selection to the whole project and deselect ALL tracks
2. I choose the "Export" menu item (actually via a keyboard short-cut)
3. The Export dialog does not open. It says "the selection contains no audio"
4. I select the bus that I want to export and try again. Same result.

There are no empty or hidden tracks in the project. It's a fresh mixing project with audio on every track.

does it work if you skip step 1?

All you have to do, if I'm not mistaken, is select ONE of the tracks which has a send or output to that bus, then do the export. When you select "buses" from the source category, it will list only the buses that the selected track has active sends to. Usually I'll only have a maximum of 3 or 4 active sends on a track so it's really no trouble at all to just deselect all but the one I wish to export. Although I agree that none of them should be selected by default.

EDIT: I was wrong sorry, you have to select all of the tracks which have sends or outupts to that bus in order to export the full output of the bus in the mix. I guess this makes sense because you might not want to export all of the tracks which output to the bus. So I guess the issue here is that Sonar pre-selects ALL of the buses associated with all of the selected tracks, meaning you have to deselect all of the ones you don't want, which is a pain like the OP says. Perhaps submit a feature request?

Exactly! And that's what does not work (anymore). The last time I did this was before I installed the latest fix (the first "Braintree" fix, that is), IIRC. I don't use Sonar very often, so I'm not 100% sure, but I think that's the case.

BTW, some short-cuts don't work either. I have the command that consolidates all clips into one single track on a short-cut ("w"), but while it worked well in my last Sonar project, it stopped working since the update (I think), even though the context menu still shows the short-cut hint.-

Do you guys have the lastest update installed?

I'll try that and let you know. May take a while though, as I am currently working on a project in my primary DAW.

That's the exact scenario. It does NOT work - that's why I'm posting here.
