  • Hello Bandlab-NO custom install options. Is this True?

So we are suppose to put 200GB of samples on our C Drive? I have Cakewalk Content folder, also huge, installed on a separate drive with sample. I have Audio installed on a 3rd hard drive. So is this not possible now?

If there is no custom install I cannot use it. I hung on because I thought we would be getting what we already have. I understand about the 3rd party stuff, don't really care about that.
But Custom install is a MUST.

Could you, prior to installation, create an NTFS directory junction that redirects "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk" to somewhere on another disk?

i.e. as an administrator:
mklink /J "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk" D:\Cakewalk

Then run the installation? Not everything deals well with junctions though...

It is possible to create directory junctions in advance of the install and the installer will use them.

For example, if "Cakewalk Content" is currently installed at "D:\Cakewalk Content" open up a command shell as administrator and type:
mklink /j "C:\Cakewalk Content" "D:\Cakewalk Content"

If you entered the command properly there should be an entry on the C: drive that looks like a shortcut and should open to the Cakewalk Content on D:

Now running the new BandLab Cakewalk installer will write Cakewalk Content to D:.

Do you know if this has been tested with Cakewalk? I've seen apps that don't like junctions or don't see them as directories

BTW, the basic install is similar to running the Platinum installer only. None of the sample based synths are in the basic installer. Even the additional content is only the Artist instrument. No need to reinstall that package if you already have a full Platinum install.

It has worked with every version of SONAR since directory junctions have been around. I have not tested with BandLab Cakewalk but have no reason to suspect it is any different.

I have never messed with the program location but do recall previous discussions about directory junctions where relocating the Cakewalk program folder also worked.

OK, So is there a Folders tab in preferences? Or do I need to do this with project files also?

Furthermore, this will only work I guess if I uninstall my Plat install because this would be duplicating folders with the same name. Hope that makes sense.

I just never imagines I would have to uninstall my Sonar plat.

Does changing the register entry for the folder work like it did n the old days, say with Dimension pro and others?

What if I own Platinum but don't have it installed? :) can I get my Dimension Pro back without installing Platinum?

There is no Dimension Pro in BandLab Cakewalk. Running the BandLab Cakewalk installer is like running the SONAR Platinum installer only no plug-in or synth installers.

No need to edit the registry to move sample libraries, directory junctions work for them too. But again, there are no sample libraries in BandLab Cakewalk, just Cakewalk Content and if you choose the old SONAR Artist Instrument package.
