Yes, if the junction is there, the new stuff will be added to where the junction points.

BandLab Cakewalk installs like an old SONAR upgrade (think SONAR 8.5 to the X-Series not SONAR 2017.01 to 2017.02). It updates the "Shared Folders" plug-in manager, vstscanner, etc. It creates new folders for the program, user directory and content called "Cakewalk Core" beside SONAR Platinum.

Not going to overwrite samples.

Thanks as always Scook. The only mlink j I need is Cakewalk Content so thats great!

Man I sure hope there will be a forum like this one....Just a wealth of information and help.

Thanks guys............

Stupid question. So does it matter that my E:\ drive has a name, for Mlink I mean. It's named Sample Disk. Clever, I know.

So is it:
mklink /j "C:\Cakewalk Content" "E:\Cakewalk Content"
or
mklink /j "C:\Cakewalk Content" "E:\Sample Disk\Cakewalk Content"

The command uses drive letters and folder names (IOW fully qualified paths). It does not use Disk volume names.

So if on the E drive the there is a folder in the root called "Cakewalk Content" use the first command.
If there is a folder in the root of E called "Sample Disk" and "Cakewalk Content" is a folder under "Sample Disk" use the second command.

When first launching CakewalkBB and choosing custom settings from Sonar Plat I get this:
Sorry to sound like a moron here.....I have not used X3 since the year of the flood

All audio data files have been kept in C:\Users\Frankl\AppData\Roaming\Cakewalk\SONAR X3 Producer\Audio Data, with your previous Cakewalk sequencer.  To prevent data loss please DO NOT manually DELETE this directory.

It picked up the path from your Global Audio Folder setting Preference > File > Audio Data

The new cakewalk.exe is, at this time, merely a recompile of sonarplt.exe with some enhancements. For now you can think of Cakewalk by BandLab as the next version of SONAR.

Aren't all software updates we do a recompile with some enhancements? :-P
Yes CbB is indeed the next generation of SONAR Platinum. As Meng mentioned there are even two brand new features that weren't in the last version of Platinum.
There are a ton of changes behind the scenes to make it an independent product (something which we haven't done since 2013) which allows it to coexist and even run side by side with SONAR Platinum. Like the transition from X3 to Platinum.

Does this mean it is a NEW product? If not, should we expect a jump such as SONAR 8 to SONAR X1 or SONAR X3 to SONAR in the near future?

It installs like a new product with separate program, programdata, content and user folders.
