Thanks for this, I'd not heard of ripple editing (I'm from X3) and was having trouble replicating X3's method for deleting extra measures I had inserted in songs where I'd highlight the measures to be deleted and do a delete with "delete hole" checked.
 
I'm searching for a document or thread that contains the changes between X3 and splat, if anyone has heard of one.

Welp...Zinc Trumpet hit the nail on the head.  I do use a default template and when I loaded everything on to my new DAW it must have got corrupted in some way.  I built a new template from scratch and...problem solved.  Thanks to all for your help and suggestions.  That was a weird one:-)
