• SONAR
  • Key bindings in Console View

I have now added key bindings in consolve view e.g. for "Strips | Buses", "Strips | Mains", "Narrow All Strips", "Show/hide ProChannel" but do not understand why they stop working after a while i.e. if you close the console view (so that it is no longer in multidock) and then open it again, the key bindings work fine ... but if you switch between track view and console view (or have both visible and the focus set to console view) the key bindings do no longer work, requiring closing and re-opening of the console view ...

What am I missing / doing wrong?

Do they work again once you close and re-open the console view? If that's the case, I highly doubt you're doing anything wrong because the bindings are apparently still assigned...there just seems to be a particular condition (or conditions) that causes SONAR to lose track of them.

I think I have it figured out now ... it's a matter of whether the "focus" is set to the console view or not i.e.
... if the console view has just been opened, or the multi-dock hidden and shown (press "D" twice) consolve view key bindings work ...
... if you change screensets, do something in track view while displaying console view etc. console view does not have the focus set to receive console view key bindings, and hence it does not work ...

so one way to work around is to hide and show multi-dock (press "D" twice) before using console view key bindings

there's a few gotchas like that as Craig said,

I think there's a windows mouse setting about focus and hover over a screen object to make it so, but I haven't used it in a long time, Now I've been reminded it might be worth chasing up.

So I've had a look and in Control Panel\Ease of Access settings there's an item Make it easier to manage windows\ Check the box: Activate a window by hovering over it with the mouse.

I haven't used this in ages so I can't remember what trade offs there are but its easy enough to switch off. I'm trying it myself now.

Interesting ... I didn't know something like this exists ...

Yet, I tried to setup key bindings so that I do not have to use the mouse for that particular action.

I think this "issue" dates back to the pre-multi-dock days when track view and console view were separate entities. Hence, key bindings only work with the particular view having the "focus" set ... maybe some (or all?) key bindings should be promoted to be "Global Bindings" rather than being tied to a certain "view"

I found a neat way to "fix" that ... I'm using automated key press events which are sent before the actual bound key ... so when I hit e.g. CTRL + ALT + 1 to execute "Narrow All Strips", two key strokes for hiding and showing the console view are executed beforehand ... and thus, the console view key bindings always work ...
