Can Sonar Artist utilize sound fonts?

Not a function of the host (Sonar), but it (Sonar) should have installed with a font player VST (e.g., sfz).  If not, cakewalk used to have it as a free download.

Pre X series Sonar had a soundfont manager used in conjunction with some sound cards that could load them. The X series dropped that ability.
 
You can convert sf2 to sfz format using a converter so they will work in most soft synths, though I'm not 100% happy with the results. Maybe 90%. 

Yes - Sonar still comes with "rgc:audio sfz" player - it's even 64bit.
 
In the middle of last year some weblinks 'broke' on the Cakewalk site but even "rgc:audio: sfz+" should still be available somewhere ...
 
However, I suggest just getting the free, and very good, Plogue Sforzando.
It can also convert and play sf2, as well as sfz.
The associated Free Sounds for ARIA Engine are also well worth the price ;).
 
Zampler is another free alternative.
 
These are, as expected, fully intergrateable, with Sonar as VST instruments.

The Plogue Sforzando looks nice but "bites" if you have other applications using Aria Player, e.g. Garritan Personal Orchestra.
Is there any fresh release of the rgc SFZ+, or is the version dating from 2006 still the most actual one?
I shall have a look at Zampler anyway, but the SFZ+ weas so good until a few weeks ago...
Ok, Zampler is only available in 32 bit, not 64 bit. All my host engines run 64 bit:-(

Zampler is 64bit now also. I thought the PluginBoutique interface version was too but perhaps it's just the Beats interface version. Same Synapse core. (EDIT: Ahh, see my post in the link).

What's the conflict with Sforzando and Aria Player Apps?

When I use soundfonts I use a free sampler called "tx16wx" (found at http://www.tx16wx.com/). Comes in 32 and 64 bit versions. Does a lot more than just play sooundfonts. Might be worth a look.

I had Garritan Pers. Orch  4 installed, which comes with Aria Player. After installing sforzando, I run Cakewalk, and a message popped up "aria must be installed again, important elements missing." So I re installed GPO's Aria again, and tried then to run sforzando. Upon loading my .sf2 file to sforando, I failed and got the message "nothing registered to load this format." So there are 2 different configurations, and when I have one valid, the other one does not work properly. Or: Both versions are not complete versions. 
So I shall try Zampler 64 bit, and also "tx16wx" - thanks, MandolinPicker - and see how things turn out.

I tried Sforzando but the results converting sf2 to sfz were less than good compared to SFZed, which did great on most sounds. But the more complex the sound the less accurate it will be converted in my experience.
