• SONAR
  • Crashes frequent. Then program stays resident and can't restart for 5-10m.

Hi again.  Solved pan problem with your help.

Crashing - unpredictable as to when, but often crashes upon starting transport (playback).  It also happened just now when I tried to solo a track - that is hitting the "S" button did it.  I then stays resident and trying to terminate results in error message (using Process Hacker 2) to effect of can't do it because it's in the middle of exiting.

Anyway, I've been advised to s&*tcan 32 bit add ons, which I believe I've done.  Any other thoughts?  I have a very simple computer setup that runs only x3.  Could it be antivirus program (Norton)?  Shot in the dark question, but I'm completely out of my depth here.

I don't see it as a process or an app

Interestingly just noticed that even on non-crash shutdown of Sonar it still stays resident for extended time.

You don't have an audio interface listed in your specs.

In recent threads you've been asked a couple of times which audio interface you have, with no response.  So... what is your interface, and is it up-to-date with firmware/drivers?

Ditto.

Try disabling all your plugins to see if it still happens. You could also try running in Sonar safe mode. If it starts to work you need to rule out a plugin as the root cause of the issue.

Also it would be useful to exclude Sonar from the path of your virus scanner, maybe even temporarily disable it.

Cheers...

Thanks gentlemen.  Sorry about leaving out the audio interface - it's an M-Audio Fast Track Pro.

I disabled all the plug-ins, although the Midi Effects (MFX) and Control Surfaces could not be disabled.

I also created exclusions for the Cakewalk folder under Program Files using Norton's "Items to Exclude From Scans" and "Items to Exclude from Auto-Protect, SONAR and Download Intelligence Detection.

However, X3 is still crashing.

While X3 was running, I did notice, by the way, that exporting to an mp3 now results in one file for each audio track, instead of one file with all, in this case 4, audio tracks in one song.

Should have mentioned that I also disabled Norton's antivirus and firewall to no avail.

Is your Windows maintenance up to current levels?

Also, any updates or firmware available for your audio interface?

I'm grasping here, as usually I have seen the presence of 32-bit plugins when this sort of hang is going on.

Sorry I don't have more to go on at the moment,
