  • Does anyone here mix 100% in the box with Sonar?

I'm including bundled third party plugins and Pro Channel plugins.  For those who are close what do you find yourself unable to do without when it comes to third party plugs?

I still need to go outside SONAR for a vocoder and a really good "maximizer" like the Waves L-series.

It's funny, reading your tips (and using your videos) has brought me closer to having mixes that are 100% Sonar.  Your Vintage Echo  is my goto delay for "mixtape" like "hype" tracks for a few rappers i mix for.  I agree on the maximizer.  The Nomad one is ok, but does not quite cut it for me.  Never was a fan of Boost 11 although i used it a lot for video for a bit.  i wonder if a Vocoder is in the works

I find myself often using Adobe Audition when I need a "time stretch" instead of Sonar's audio snap.

I only own a couple third party plugs anyway (BFD Eco, GR5 and a couple freebies I've never even really used/installed). I did however upgrade TH2 so I'm not sure if that counts and I certainly could not do without that.

I will however likely use another DAW for tagging and setting things up for release/manufacturing because I found a tut showing how to do so in that DAW and I don't think Sonar can do that type of thing. I had bought Pyro for that stuff but I don't think it goes quite as far as all that.

The reason I don't own/use much other third party stuff though is because I can't afford it but that's why I bought Sonar in the first place. It had everything I needed already. As I learn more though I've been crossing many things off my "DO WANT" list because I realize I don't need it.

That frees me up for things that I do actually need like Ozone and outboard gear... which I still can't afford right now anyway. lol

Dub are you asking if we use third party plugins?

If we're only covering mixing (so not third party soft synths., etc.), then I do mix mostly with Sonar/Cakewalk.

I do use all the optional ProChannel plugs, including Softube, Overloud, Boz modules a lot.

Apart from those, the only one I can think of is the Nomad Factory PusleTec EQ.  Fantastic plug, and couldn't do without it.

Putting aside what I do or do not own outside of the SONAR product, IMO Plat out of the box (ahem server) should give the beginner and semi-pro alike enough to produce quality recordings.

Like CA says, maybe a higher end limiter or a specialty item (like a vocoder or Leslie emulation) would be on someone's TO GET list but again overall one does not NEEEEEEEEED too much extra.

Funny dub mentions this because I had been thinking about doing a whole project with pure Platinum; just because.

That is a good idea.

Dan G's mix challenge, where he only allowed used Sonitus plugs, focused my mind a lot.
