  • [Solved] Quick Question about Pentagon I: Should right clicking show MIDI Learn?

Just goofing around with my Oxygen 25 and Pentagon I. Just wondering if right clicking should bring up a MIDI learn option for mapping the various knobs and doodads to the controls on the controller. Currently it's just popping open the patch banks but no learn options. No biggie because I'm just having some fun and I can research it more but figure it's a quick yes or no answer.

Currently using it in Platinum Braintree release if that makes a difference.

Cheers.

Edit: Not gonna bother bumping. scook gave the answer... hold shift while right clicking the paramater and the MIDI Learn options appear. Thanks again.

try SHIFT+right-click
FWIW, Pentagon was dropped from the new SONAR.

Thanks, scook. Will try that.

Glad I still have it due to old installs. It's pretty cool and will likely be a good learning tool for a synth n00bie like me.

Hope you've been well, buddy. I know you've been working hard around here lately (more so than usual) and seriously... thank you for that.

Update: I unhooked the Oxygen to clear deskpace for some meatworld phone call mayhem and other annoying stuff (I'm working in a cramped space and my DAW room doubles as my "office") but the Shift+Right click did indeed bring up MIDI Learn context menu. I will do some actual mapping in a bit after I finish my calls for the day to confirm it works in Platinum then mark this as solved.

Thanks, scook. You rule.

Edit: Tried it with the controller. Totally works. Thanks again. Cheers.

scook knows all. And agreed that Pentagon is cool. Would love to see it continue on...

Just finished the SWA Producer Instruments section on Zeta. Rapture is next (and the last synth covered). This was mostly just an overview to see where things are in the various interfaces and get a general idea of what does what.

Next I'll be plopping my butt in front of the DAW to re-watch them all and trying everything out step by step... which will likely take a while because it's easy to get completely absorbed in these tools for hours on end. With any luck in a few months I'll be able to use it all properly at least at a basic level.

I really want to get good at creating my own sounds with the waveteable synths. The noises those things can make can be downright brutal and I'd like to incorporate mind shredding synthesis to some of my heavier projects.

The samplers (or I guess "romplers"?) are just cool and I've got lots of ideas for that stuff as well.

scook has a copy of Simon Cann's "Cakewalk Synthesizers" which he used as the source for his answer in this thread.

Googled and now on my radar. I've seen this book recommended before on occasion (likely by your self and I can see there is at least one forum regular in the reviews on Amazon) but have been to distracted by general topics.

It's almost ten years old but looks to be still relevant for much of what I currently have and really... I need as much help as I can get in regards to general synth concepts. As always you pack a lot of excellent advice into very concise statements.

Thank you... again.

It covers all the synths you have and more. Cann's website http://noisesculpture.com/ has a free book http://noisesculpture.com/how-to-make-a-noise-a-comprehensive-guide-to-synthesizer-programming which is not CW specific.
