Does anyone here use Voxengo SPAN? If so, would you mind running me through how you go about routing individual signals into it. I know how to route everything correctly in FL Studio, but I can't seem to figure out how to route it in Sonar. Thanks in advance for any help you guys can provide.

I use it all the time when mixing and mastering. However, I think I use it a bit differently than what you are asking. I use this primarily to check for any digital overloads/clipping. I only use it on the main mix down stereo buss. I use Ozone 6 metering for actual analysis.  I went to the link referenced and read thru it. It clearly explains how to set up multiple sources but it doesn't mention this  which I copied directly from the user manual.

"Even though in some audio host applications (e.g. Ableton Live) SPAN in VST format
exposes 8 audio inputs, it does not mean it can display more than 2 spectrums at the
same time. Please consider using GlissEQ if you would like to perform cross-track
multi-spectrum analysis."

Perhaps this is the issue you are experincing?

Thanks to both of you for your responses, I appreciate it. I checked out the information you guys provided but neither fixed my issue. I dug a little deeper and I finally figured it out.

I was confused by the Output/Send routing, along with the first SPAN input not clearly stating it was an input like the other 3 available inputs. In FL Studio I would set the Output of a Mixer Insert directly to the Bus housing SPAN. In Sonar's case you keep the tracks outputting to their default Bus or Master and use the Sends. The input titled SPAN is in fact input 1, and the other options are listed properly as inputs 2-4.

Another problem is the VST3 version seems to only have 2 outputs, while the VST2 version has 8. The VST2 version for some reason is listed under Soft Synths rather than Audio FX.

Hopefully this information helps anyone else having issues with SPAN. Again, thank you guys for the replies.

I think you've answered most of my question/dilemma here, but I'm missing something vital to understand how this should work.

I have Voxengo SPAN, and another multi-channel spectrum analyzer that purports to have the mult-input capability.
- How/where do I instantiate the plugin?
- How do I route inputs to each?

Please provide details, because I'm stuck, tired and have a deadline.

Many thanks in advance.

If it's like Blue Cat's 'Multi' plugins, you'll need to instantiate 1 plugin on each track that you want to monitor. Then monitor all the tracks using any one of the plugin's windows.

I switched to the Blue Cat Multi bundle since the Voxengo stuff had issues in Sonar & NI Kore. Sorry if that doesn't answer your questions.

It helps quite a lot to know there were Voxengo SPAN issues. It seems very obtuse in the way the inputs are labeled and routed. I can't get my head around it, and the only usage example I found was via Ableton.  I'll take another shot in the morning when I'm fresher.

Thanks.

From my Notes: It was SPAN v28 that SONAR disabled in its Plugin Manager. Also crashed my other VST hosts.
But it looks like the most recent version of Voxengo SPAN is v31. GUI is redesigned too. So I suppose it works now?

Tempted to try the Voxengo free plugins again, some good-looking stuff. I just remember having a difficult time finding 64-bit spectrum analyzer & oscilloscope plugins several years ago.

YES !  That was the golden insight that made everything work.  After a night's sleep, I jumped on it, and used a product called Spectrum [ https://schulz.audio/products/spectrum/ ] that has the function I need.  I'm trialing it now, but $29 seems more accessible than $99 for the Blue Cat equivalent. (Although Blue Cat actually offers instructions on usage, whereas I'd still be lost with Spectrum without additional guidance.)

Thanks a million! I'm on my way!
