I have a new ASUS M32BF computer and just upgraded to Sonar Artist.  It does not recognize my sound card and I get no sound on playback and I cannot record.  No one answers the phone during business hours and I have been screwing around for days reading off line help (has been no help, as usual) and getting runarounds from robots asking me inscrutable tech questions.  I want a person to call me or else I want my money back!

Welcome to the forum ?
There's lots of great humans here who will help out, but we will need more information about your system set-up.
For starters, what sound card are you using ? Asio drivers ? OS ? Does your audio interface not show up in Sonar preferences in Audio - Devices at all ? So many questions, sorry no robot here, just trying to help out.

Hi Luke!
Nobody in the forum can give you your money back - but we're glad to help!
You say you upgraded to Sonar Artist - what were you using before?
Have you tried switching between ASIO and WDM drivers?
Have you tried ASIO4ALL?

As stated above - tell us a little more about what devices are in your computer, and I'm sure we can help!

We also need to know your level of expertise and how familiar you are with computer-based recording. Also note that phone support does not operate 9A to 5P but 1P to 6P eastern time:

Thanks so much for your replies.  I would like to reply directly but, silly me, I couldn't figure that out either so hopefully this will be seen.  I have tried to answer Noynekker's questions as best I can after several hours of googling.
sound card: AMD HIGH DEFINITION AUDIO DEVICE - REALTEK HIGH DEFINITION AUDIO
ASIO drivers?:  I don't think so.  I came across some information in cyberspace that said they need to be installed after purchase.  I tried googling this question:  "How do I determine if my computer has ASIO drivers?" and came up short.  Maybe you can do better.
    OS: Windows 8.1
Does your audio interface not show up in Sonar preferences in Audio - Devices at all?: EDIT>PREFERENCES UNDER INPUT DRIVERS, THERE ARE 2 COLUMNS, FRIENDLY NAME, AND DRIVER NAME.  IT IS BLANK UNDER BOTH.  UNDER OUTPUT DRIVERS - FRIENDLY NAME, IT SAYS: SPEAKERS (WITH A CHECKED CHECK BOX) (REALTEC HIGH DEFINITI AND DRIVER NAME, SPEAKERS (REALTEK HIGH DIFINITI
I know what none of this means.  I have one pressing immediate task at hand which is to convert my midi files to mp3 audio.  On my old version of Sonar Home Studio 7, I was able to do this by adding an audio track, arming it so the red dot goes on, and pressing R on the keyboard.  This would record a WAV file which I could then convert to mp3.  The old computer had Vista.  When I tried to do this on the new computer, with Home Studio 7, the midi tracks would play back fine, but there was no input choices on the audio track to record.  I upgraded to Artist, hoping to resolve this but Artist does not even play back.  The vertical transport line moves but there is no sound.
Both output and input fields on the audio track are blank.
Just so you know, I do not use or need any outboard midi interface.
                                  thanks again,
                                                 Luke

Luke, if you don't want to use an external sound card that supports ASIO then you will never get the full performance of the software. If you want to use the Realtek sound chip you should use the WDM driver option. I could run 8.5 on a laptop with REaltek and WDM but I don't know if the X series will work that way. Best of luck.

Maybe not, but you definitely need a decent Audio interface as that where all of your problems are coming from.

You may want to look at using TTS-1 as you sound source. This is in Artist I believe. Read about how to do this in the tutorial 1 in the help file. Or the manual. Then read the tutorial 4. its about using softsynths.

You should be able to hear your song if you set Sonar to MME for your built in sound chip. You do this in Preferences under Audio and audio devices.

Note you should load the MIDI file not import it. Its a native file format for Sonar.
