I have ambition to create a soft synth sax instrument for extensive samples I have. Not to market, but to have one that is unique.
I sat down with Sonar and started importing phrases to tracks. Slicing notes is indeed intensive work. But the mute all but one wav/naming/saving task by exporting the individual notes is more than daunting.
 
Is there a way to do this in Sonar I may not be aware of, outside the method I tried?
Is there a piece or more of software better streamlined to do this work? Thanks, Shep

We restore old tapes and Vinyl records with Sonar. We think Sonar is the fastest Audio Editor for handling thousends of tapes, slicing and exporting clips.
I made a keyboard shortcut "F8" for exporting.
You only need to select a single clip (with the single note) and press "F8" (export).
In this way with a little practice you can export 30 Clips in one minute.

I made a template in the export dropdown menu that eliminates all processing. I set it up for my F2 key, as it's not assigned in shortcuts. It works nicely - thanks!
 
If I might trouble you for one more brain pick... In slicing these, I've gone in very tediously to select the exact spot between notes that is a zero crossing. Some of these are played fairly fast. Is there anything I can do to make the split function figure out where the 'in between' is for all these notes using 'split repeatedly' when the sample needing split is inside one measure? Thanks very much for your help.

If you had space between notes it would be easier work, but even if you don't you should be able to work faster with the TAB to transients feature followed by slicing at the Now Time.
 
TAB (Navigate to next transient)
SHIFT+TAB (Navigate to previous transient)
S (Slice at Now Time)
 
Then everything else is basic renaming, applying track names to clips, creating a very short fade in at the beginning of the selected clips so you don't have to be so careful with slices at the Zero-Cross point to prevent pops and clicks. Then a key binding for Export as already suggested.

wow, this is a great thread. I was slicing up Ryuichi Sakamoto last night in ReCycle, but this looks like a better method for my purposes.
