I was once more disappointed to see a newcomer treated to the usual ridicule and psychological analysis of his/her character by several, including forum hosts and above.  Then more discussion about how it's certain the person was a troll because they haven't reappeared within a very few hours.

I wish we could just presume that a newcomer is a normal person, no matter what they say (unless, of course, they're pushing kitchen cabinets).

I find it a little strange that the thread has been completely wiped.

That is the MO of this forum.  "You're with us or your against us."  It's standard practice to assume everyone that doesn't praise Sonar is a troll.  I was really sad to see Craig jump on that band wagon.  You see it in the "help" you get most of the time.  The automatic conclusion is that it's not Sonar's fault and problems are "worked" from that bias.  Many people are frustrated and inarticulate but I think the actual cases of deliberate "trolling" are very rare.  It seems that here its "guilty before proven innocent".

I had gone back and reviewed all the posts in response to the OP's initial thread, and while Craig DID indicate the initial OP rant did fit the 'template' of being a troll, he also followed that up with the following, quoted from Craig's post in that thread yesterday:

"Well, I have been wrong a few times and assumed a "template" post when it in fact ended up being an "immature venting" post. We'll see. There have been many examples of "SONAR BUGGY!!! [fill in function] BROKEN!!" threads that listed no specifics, but where it was eventually determined the problem was pilot error or system-related, and the forum or tech support was able to solve it." (italics added by Bob Bone to indicate Craig's content)

I DO believe a bunch of folks collectively drove the OP away, potentially Craig's initial thoughts on it included, and VintageVibe I only posted the above to be accurate with what precisely had been posted, so I take no issue with your comment - just providing the specific detail).

In the OP's comments to me, after I had tracked him down in FB, he did indicate getting miffed at the responses that were posted.

I think we all need to be careful about rant posts, which can be tricky, so that we don't potentially drive someone away.  It can be difficult to determine, one way or the other, and we CERTAINLY have had our share of trolls come through, so please also understand that I understand why folks thought that might well have been a troll.

OK - let's see if we can get to the business of getting details on some of the issues (each issue in a new separate thread, with details included), so that we can get the OP fixed up.  Greg, this is your part of it - to get those issues posted as separate threads with detail - thanks. :)

I use an HP with Windows 8.1, 8gb memory, 1tb  hard drive, 2tb Toshiba external hard drive, i5 intel core. I will be adding another 8gb in memory. My audio interface is a Presonus AudioBox 44VSL, and I use an ART tube mic pre. I run my Line 6 POD HD600 through the mic pre.  I also use WAVES gold bundle and sometimes Native products.

Thanks.

I have an eerily similar setup, except that I am still using Win764bit. I too had issues with the Presonus Audiobox 44VSL and Sonar (X1d at the time) and it took some digging to figure out what the problems were. For the most part, all of my problems went away when I disable USB3 support in my computer's BIOS. In addition to that, I also disabled Intel's speed-stepping (turbo mode) so that the computer never goes into a low power state. Finally, there have been a few updates to the 44VSL driver that have helped. I still haven't updated to the latest final driver, though I have read on the Presonus forums that at least the engineers haven't made it any worse. The initial driver worked, the second version was pretty bad, third was better (I think that's the one I'm still using). There were two more after that.

I'm on X3e and still have no problems, but am still hesitant to fix what isn't broken by upgrading the driver, though I have downloaded it.

Regards,
Dan

I just don't understand forum members need to interact with someone they believe is a troll.
Why attack? Why defend CW and Sonar? If he IS a troll, nothing you can say will change anything.

If a "new" poster is in fact a troll, if we were to just ignore him, he would not get any satisfaction from his rants.
If a "new" poster is not a troll and we reach out and welcome him, the tone of this forum would definitely improve.

So, if you believe someone is a troll, just move on, don't give him the time of day, and don't start attacking. It proves nothing and does not help anyone. In fact it may just alienate a real user or worse.

oh..turn off cpu core parking...another issue found to be problematic...and of course power management settings, no Drive sleep or turn off...no sleep modes, or monitor sleep, or such, and cpu to 100% ...the cpu to 100% in my win 7, was not showing up, when told to do this...caused a hair pulling, and learning how to post pictures, and take them using print screen and paste into paint app, get a sky drive/cloud/ms one drive account, upload pictures, and post links to on these forums...but..everyday is learning for all in all by all, that seek solutions, and want to comply to the methods to get results...not sure but bios settings where why I lost that cpu page in power management for cpu settings...Which confused many here, when shown, i was telling the truth, about no such page being on my system, bios setting for cpu speed stepping may be that selection i made to make the cpu % page vanish...not sure?
....but they did not believe me, when i said it was not showing up to change....And I hate being called a liar, and left hanging in need, by this forums best...But it is resolved...and I am still here trying to get things perfect....And I will...but it is working well enough to do what needs be done...record many tracks at once...and it does that a ok...once the work around for me and my setup is applied....every one has something different...so ever solution has a twist....takes time to route em out.

more mead..or whatever keeps you sane is advised!

Hello,

In response to this:
"It was a shock to me how intolerant this forum is.  I think the software is great, but the software would be better if they dropped a bomb on the forum. I really think the forum has a very unprofessional feel.  If someone spends $500 on software they should not be a second class citizen in the support forum."

This has not been my experience for the most part. In fact (for me) this is one of the most tolerant forums that I have engaged in. And not just tolerant.. Full of supportive , resourceful personalities. Does it show signs of frustration and react to it .. Yes.. Are there instances where thoughts are misconstrued and misunderstandings take place. ... Yes.. Have emotions waxed high and showed up in posts and responses Yes. Is that an accurate critique of a forum effectiveness and purpose.. No.. but it does entail the essence of human nature.. Put people together and things happen.

With that said my experience is that this forum for the most part is most helpful and an important resource. Here people that I don't know help and engage because we share the similar virtue of a love and passion for music and its production. Even the Staff at Cakewalk and its affiliates gets involved on both ends of the spectrum of drama (Creative folk can have a flair for the dramatic no? ). Is it always "great" no.. At times entertaining ... "absolutely"... deserving to be "bombed".. Quite extreme and over the top and I think not.. My two Pence...

I don't want to "bomb" the forum either. It has been a tremendous resource.
If you think you can help someone, by all means try. Otherwise, there is no useful purpose in attacking anyone.
If you believe someone is trolling, don't engage him. That is what a troll wants.
"The OP is apparently just a troll." Does not help anyone.
