Standard practice for any DAW computer is to set it so nothing ever goes to sleep and to disable any screen savers.

^ ^  This.

+1. This is one of the first optimisations you should make. Also, make sure HDDs never sleep and that CPU never gets throttled.

I just have my screen set to turn off after 20 mins of inactivity and that hasn't caused any issues and just switches back on with a touch of the mouse, but don't use a screensaver! That's the only power saving feature I have enabled.

What do you do, just shut it down every night?

Yes, that's what I do. Always have done for the same reason pro studios never power all their hardware down unless they are doing maintenance - the most common time for something to fail is when you power off/on. Also, I have tasks run when I am not about, such as backups etc.

My mosheens are always on.  The only thing I turn off is the lights when I leave the room.  And long ago I downgraded the PC that came with Win10 preinstalled back to Win-7 home premium.  Win10 and I don't get along.

There is an advantage to turning your computer off at night, which is to reclaim RAM lost to memory leaks. Such leaks usually don't become a problem until days or weeks have passed, though, so rebooting once a week is almost as good as shutting down every night.

I turn off every night. Never causes a problem.

Just don’t like the idea of leaving something on full time. If you turn off and on rebooting something goes pear shape, there is a chance its driver (you) error.

Then is all good regarding the HD shutting down and then turning on, I've seen a lot of nerd threads where that will decrease it's life (I mean the spinning drives)...I'm OK with this, I've just never heard it before?
