Just out of curiosity, I launched StarCraft II which uses a front-end log in (as many games do), and updates the core content prior to each use. There is no "rollback" capability to it, so it is never referred to as "Build X" since it is iteratively patched each use. An advantage to this is that people are always talking to/using the same thing and updates are small and painless, disadvantage is that it requires log in to use (hence an internet connection), which also verifies ownership.
SC2 was initially released on July 27, 2010 - Current build is 2.1.8.33553 (again, many patches are incredibly small). It has had one major release of add-on content since inception.
