Also, as far as the latest updates, does Cakewalk always ship the latest boxed versions with all the updates up to the point of boxing the product for shipping?

Are you 100% sure about that? Presonus Studio One comes with all disks in the box, thus no need to waste expensive internet data. Some people in the world are still not on 'unlimited' data plans, and thus this whole 'download' situation is still an issue.
Can someone confirm if there are no disks in the boxed version? If this is the case i'll definitely not buy Sonar. That is unforgivable if this is the case. I thought the point of buying the boxed version was to get the physical disks, hello? Cakewalk? Quick answer to this please.

Can't be true.  X3 boxes was physical media.  There's not really a point in "boxed" not having disks.

Right.  That is the boxed version.  There are downloads available now.  
 
You can buy a download or the boxed (with DVDs) from Sweetwater etc but they will probably be shipping sometime soon.  If you want to get a quick response, just call Sweetwater and they'll fill you in.

I don't know if that's the case or not given that the boxed version at SW is the same price as the download.  The post clearly indicates that the cost will not be the same.
 
I personally bought the download because I really don't want the physical media, but I don't want the OP to be disappointed when his package arrives from SW (or whoever) and all there is in the box is a redemption code for a download.

The boxed version does not include DVD's. It has a Redemption Code that activates your 12 month membership.
 
Why No DVD's?
1) The pace at which we are delivering updates means that by the time a DVD gets to a shelf it will already be obsolete.
2) It's a huge resource and time sink to be managing shipping DVD's to dealers, swapping out stock when they have old versions and honestly its a bad customer experience to buy a 'new thing' and have it actually include something that is 6 months old. 
3) The number of users that actually purchased DVD's the last few years is really, really low to the point where printing a large pile up front doesn't make much sense.
4) Less and less computers are shipping with DVD drives, especially laptops.
 
My Internet is miserable and DVD's would make my life not miserable
We understand and hear you loud and clear. We are working on making DVD's available through our online store. They will be made 'on-demand' with the latest ISO and we are working on a plan to make sure that the DVD is always within 2 months of the latest SONAR builds.

Well that really doesn't make a whole lot of sense Willy why have a boxed version if there is nothing in it???
