Forgive my skepticism, but "John", forum host, offered a post that, if it were turned on its head and made a negative, would have everyone shouting "Troll!! Troll!!!" .   Give some specifics, Johnny.    I can't see that any of the things in X3 that make it unusable for the midi world (click on a "focus point" of a midi note, left right top or bottom, in a sequence with a million notes?  come on cakewalk)  have been improved in platinum.  

Are you talking about me? If so you have it 100 % wrong. I open my post in this thread with X3 being great. The exact quote is"Sonar X3 e Producer was a great version and it still is". Where am I saying its perfect? Where do I say there is no room for improvement? 
 
Yes the PRV has undergone some major improvements with Sonar Platinum.

The first time I read what williamcopper said, I saw it the same way you did (his parenthetical phrase screwed up the flow). What he was saying is that he found X3 "unusable" for MIDI work and didn't see anything in Platinum that would not make it "unusable." Unless I'm misinterpreting what he's saying, which is entirely possible, he basically doesn't like position context in notes, apparently he doesn't like to zoom to have a bigger target, and his music requires "a million" notes so he finds precision mouse pointing difficult. Personally, I think it would be possible to devise a workflow with keyboard shortcuts and locked contents that would handle his issues, but maybe not. He's not clear enough in specifics for me to know for sure.
 
I'm sure many people will be surprised they've been using something unusable, though.  

I did read it wrong at first but I got the double negative in time to alter my reply Craig. I start by extolling the virtues of X3 and than I changed it to it not being perfect. It reads a little badly but its in keeping with the way William Copper writes.  

I wouldn't worry about it. He posted a few hours ago that he's using Cubase now, so I doubt we'll see him much more around here. Most of his posts were about how X3 didn't fit with his particular workflow, which I gather is different from the norm.
 
As I say often, this is why there isn't only one DAW in the world. If one DAW fit everyone's needs, everyone would buy it and all the other ones would disappear. Last time I looked there were quite a few...

I think we're lucky he's using Cubase.

...despite still having lots to learns and having met a few bugs/quirks, I can live with them, as on my setup, Sonar X3e is the most solid, stable 64-bit, appealing DAW I've used.  Computers being computers, I am nervous about leaving this relatively solid rock for a new version, because while some new versions fix old bugs, they sometimes don't fix them for everyone, and / or create new ones.

That said, there doesn't seem to be a whole lot wrong with the new Sonar, and a lot of old bugs have apparently been fixed.

At present bug fixes consist of whittling down the queue of known bugs, and collecting user info about any bugs that are in the new version. ... But the reality is X3e didn't have a lot of bugs that affected typical workflows; they became revealed as you pushed it over time.

Yes, but all the bugs they uncovered have yet to be patched.

+1 to Paul P... X3e is a proven platform with a nice track record - bugs are well known, and relatively minor.

The bugs that are there aren't critical from what I can tell. ... Not just that, but the days of having a big release that brings many new bugs, followed by a bunch of patch releases to fix the most serious are over. ... And you can install Sonar versions side-by-side, so it's not as if you can't go back to X3e if you do run into a showstopper bug.

 
I think us Cakewalkers deserve to have the word "bug" removed from our vocabulary!  We talk about bugs way too much! But if there were no bugs, then would there be a forum?  Well, of course, YES!   Silktone, I love the "showstopper bug"! I've never heard that one before!
 
But with any software, perhaps a bit too much with Sonar, and especially with new releases...

Yes, I checked back over previous posts and almost most of them were complaints about SONAR, except for the one where he discovered Track Manager and thought it was cool. I can't for the life of me understand why people keep beating themselves up with software if it doesn't suit them. You can't force the software to adapt to your workflow, it is what it is and it is designed for specific needs. For example Ableton Live has a very different workflow compared to traditional DAWs, yet I see people complaining that it doesn't work like a traditional DAW. That's because it's not a traditional DAW.
