  • Tracks falling out of sync in Platinum

With a song playing, if I turn most any plugin on or off, my tracks fall out of sync with each other. I have to either stop / restart the transport or toggle the Plugin Delay Compensation button to get them to sync up again. So, basically, I can't turn any plugins on or off or add a new plugin while the song is playing.
Is this normal?? This behavior started for me with X3 and is also in Platinum. Sonar 8 was absolutely gapless playback for me.
Does this have anything to do with the Record and Playback Timing Master settings. Also, what should those be set at?

Did you try bypass instead of deactivating plugin?
Plugin can then maintain delay as reported - but never really checked if that is happening.

Otherwise it sounds normal - unless there is an event that Sonar can listen too and automatically recalculate pdc. But do this while running audio without any crackle is difficult task.

I also notice difference between S8.x when saving project - never heard anything on audio.
But SA2015 there is a short interruption stutter when doing that.

i think this is "normal" behaviour, either, but maybe someone with deeper insight knowledge could clarify: I believe PDC is only computed when starting playback, not while transport is running, hence removing/adding/disabling a plugin in the FX bin while the song plays back will throw that track out of sync ...

bypassing is the thing to do, yet not all plugs allow that ... VST2 plugs need to have the functionality build-into the plug, with VST3 this in now available for every plugin

I've had it happen on occasion. I didn't think much of it at the time. Just restarted playback...

hi i'm sorry to hear this.....is absolutely not normal behaviour.
In my quad core w7 system i can turn on and off to hear the difference without any glicht or sync problems....
Did you turn off any wifi or cpu power mobo system????
Did you disabled any other audio driver??
Let me know more info on your spec

I sometimes get a bit of a "thump" if I bypass or switch on a plugin that substantially changes the gain on a track (some hardware fx can do the same thing), but other than that bypassing plugins is seamless.

Deactivating a plugin by deleting it while the transport is running can lead to a slight glitch, but the solution is to bypass rather than delete the plugin.

It does happen when just bypassing a plugin, also. Basically, as the track s playing, I am A/B'ing different plugins or plugin settings. This should be a basic, standard procedure as far as I know.
In Sonar 8 Producer this process was seamless (Occasionally a minor thump but, nothing major). Starting with X3 and now with Platinum, it's terrible. I guess I'll have to stop/restart playback any time I want to try out any plugin changes while mixing. That goes completely against the whole concept of being able to A/B the effects of different processors/ settings, though.
Now, sometimes it works fine. You just never know which plugins are going to do it and which aren't.
Also, most of my projects are 16 to 20 tracks and,I don't ever use a ton of plugins.

The ones that have latency will, the ones that don't won't.

Also, you don't say if you are using Sonar 64bit with 32bit plugins. In my experience, this can also cause issues.

I posted a thread earlier about wave tracks slowing down as the song plays last week, but I've also noticed that tracks get out of sync when I do something simple like adjusting anything on the prochannel compressor over the mix bus.
