Is there a button you can click to turn 3 notes into triplets easily, or do you have to edit the duration and position of the 3 notes one at a time?

Not a button, but highlighting the desired notes then right clicking next to them (on the staff) will bring up a pop-up menu wherein you can select Quantize and make the change to duration there (without having to move them around on the staff).

Creating macros in SONAR/CbB would be cool like in MS Word.  (I guess that's what CAL is for.) Linking the macro to a new button/tool would be even cooler.  Sounds like a feature request...  where's my stationery?

Kind regards,

Perhaps change the note values to what they would be if they were triplets? 40 sticks in my head for eighth-note triplets (3X40=120, the value of a quarter note). Then at least the values will be correct, which means it will play correctly.

Quick way to do this(I do it quite often with not only triplets, but septuplets etc.)  Play in 3 eighth notes, open piano roll view, highlight the three notes, Hit "Alt" and drag the tail of the last note in until the notes line up as a triplet.  It is a way to time warp midi notes.
