  • How to change Tempo but not Markers?

I'm using SONAR X3 Pro and I started recording at a Tempo of 182bpm and recorded most of the audio tracks and created Markers for all the different parts in the song. I then went to import a MIDI track but didn't realize the song was supposed to be at 91bpm and not 182bpm.

Now when I try to change the Tempo to 91bpm, all the Markers are in the wrong places and late and the only way to fix them is to go into Marker View and divide the M:B:T by 2 which is way too time consuming.

Also, one strange this is that after changing the Tempo from 182bpm to 91bpm, some of the audio tracks are no longer in time.

Is there a way to change the Tempo but leave the Markers at the H:M:S:F bc the Markers stay at the M:B:T and are now all late?

I'm lazy. I'd start a new project at 91bpm as set the markers (based on H:M:S:F) and them copy all audio from the old project to the new.

If you have MIDI you're on your own.

No no, there's a way!

You have to switch Track, Bus and Clips to Absolute Time from Musical Time on order to preserve clip locations and envelope information.

On the track inspector, check the Clip and Track tabs for the TIME BASE setting.

Tracks have to be set one at a time, but you can ctrl+a to select all clips and then ctrl+click the Time Base to Absolute.

Next, open the Markers View and double click your markers and check the Absolute Time checkbox.
Click select all + the lock icon in the Markers view to change this setting for all at once.

Now, you should be able to change tempos with impunity, but remember ctrl+z if it doesn't go your way the first time. Also, view lots of the project in track view when you make the change so you can tell if it goes wrong.

Thank You! That worked!

Should I set everything back from Absolute to Musical? The Markers all seem to be in the right places but the M:B:F are little off but I figure that's bc the mathematical calculation from Musical to Absolute isn't a perfect conversion.

Also, I didn't have any automation yet, so did I really need to change the Tracks and Buses to Absolute time or just the Clips?

Just clips and markers.

Tracks and buses are for related automation (mainly track and bus automation).

Setting them back is only necessary if you want them to move with tempo changes.

Is there a way to set Meter changes to Absolute time bc they stayed at the same Measure (M:B:T) after the Tempo change, so now they're incorrect. The mid section of the song has Meter changes from 4/4, 6/4 and 2/4.

Instead of changing the whole project, just to import a few MIDI clips, is there a way to just change the Tempo of the MIDI clip from 91bpm to 182bpm?

I was afraid you'd say that. Now I have a $150 feature request if it ever gets added to the new Sonar 2015 but I would gladly upgrade if they added a feature to just change tempo to half or double time and left everything else in Absolute time or if they added options to the Tempo change window with selection boxes for what should and shouldn't get changed, similar to the Project > Insert Time/Measure window.
