Yes, test them. The default setting works for me so have not bothered messing with the variable. As I mentioned above the later versions of EZDrummer1 work as expected with the default setting.

Don't mean to beat a dead horse, but should I go out to the Toontracks site and download later versions if they are available?  It is just strange that this problem only showed up in X3 and that the existing instances of EZDrummer in my synth rack are named correctly.
 
I am about ready to drop this issue and move on, so thanks for any final help or ideas.

It's important to have the latest version of the EZdrummer.dll because some EZX libraries depend on additions and improvements that were made along the way.
