• SONAR
  • Platinum looking for a missing multisample for tune recorded on X1

Hello,

When I try to load one particular tune I initially recorded in X1, Sonar Platinum gives me a small error message:

Multisample Not Found. Saw Mini 3.sfz

One by one, I went through and deleted every plug-in and synth, closing and re-opening the file after each deletion, figuring there would come a point where I had deleted whatever was looking for the multisample, but I got clear down to an empty project, no more audio or midi tracks, no plug-ins, no nothing, and still Platinum would ask for the missing multisample.

Of course, I had saved the original project. When Platinum tells me about the missing item, I click Ok, then it repeats its message, I click Ok again, and everything loads up and plays just fine. I might mention, though, that it does take a remarkably long time for this project to load after I click Ok.

I used Dim Pro, Session Drummer, Scuffman Guitar amp, and the usual compressor, EQ, and reverb from the standard X1.

Any thoughts?

Hi.
I have the same problem in Platinum, and also some graphics missing in the pro console. I contacted Cakewalk and they replied saying they were aware of all these problems and that it would be corrected in the next update. Hope this helps.

I have just checked my install and I have Saw Mini 3.sfz in my "Dimension Pro\Multisamples\00 - Wavetables" directory.

Have you searched your hard drive to see if it is present?

Curiously, I have it in two locations:

c:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk\Vstplugins\Cakewalk Sound Center\Modules\Multisamples\Dimension Pro\00 - Wavetables\Saw Mini 3.sfz
c:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins\Cakewalk Sound Center\Modules\Multisamples\Dimension Pro\00 - Wavetables\Saw Mini 3.sfz

I've only installed Dim Pro once that I recall, when I got X1. I didn't reinstall when I got Platinum. Not sure what to think.

Those are not seen by DimPro. The default location for DimPro multisamples depends on whether the 32bit or 64bit version was installed first. The two locations for "Saw Mini 3.sfz" used by DimPro are:
C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Dimension Pro\Multisamples\00 - Wavetables\Saw Mini 3.sfz for 64bit
and
C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk\Dimension Pro\Multisamples\00 - Wavetables\Saw Mini 3.sfz for 32bit

There is something odd about the Cakewalk Sound Center through. Somehow two instances of Cakewalk Sound Center are installed, one in the 64bit location and another in the 32bit location. Usually only one instance is installed and subsequent installers pick up the location from the registry. Regardless, Cakewalk Sound Center includes a selection of DimPro and Rapture programs and samples, which explains why "Saw Mini 3.sfz" is in the CSC paths.

I do not have saw mini 3.sfz at the locations you specified. The directory is there, and there are plenty of other sfz files there, but not that one.

Is this Cakewalk Sound Center oddity indicating something that should be fixed? Aside from that message about the missing multisample, everything seems to run fine. Should I just copy the file to the directory you listed?

thanks!

The error in the initial post is due to Saw Mini 3.sfz missing from the DimPro installation. Copying the file may solve the immediate problem or the project may complain about missing "saw mini.wav" which could also be copied. However it begs the question; what else is missing from the DimPro multisample folder? The missing file error has nothing to do with CSC unless the project was not fully described in the initial post.

WRT the double install of CSC, each CSC installation uses around 600MB of disk. Personally it would drive me nuts but if everything is running OK and the lost disk space is not an issue, it might be something to address later. To me, the DimPro issue is more troubling.

Should I just copy the whole set of multisamples to
C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Dimension Pro\Multisamples\00 - Wavetables\Saw Mini 3.sfz for 64bit
and
C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk\Dimension Pro\Multisamples\00 - Wavetables\Saw Mini 3.sfz for 32bit?

Or should I uninstall/re-install Dim Pro? (My next question would be: If it is a faulty install, would it uninstall correctly? Or would I run the risk of kicking over a whole bucket of other worms?)

Regarding the CSC, I have 15 gigs free on my C: drive, so I'm not suffocating at the moment. If I were to try to address the CSC issue, how would I and what would the risk be?

I'm competent to make some interventions in this machine, but I'm paranoid about going deeper than I know how and screwing things all up. Thanks a lot for your insights, Scook.

It is up to you.

To fix the immediate issue, copy Saw Mini 3.sfz and saw mini.wav into where ever Dimension Pro\Multisamples\00 - Wavetables is located. Note just like the CSC, there should only be one copy of the DimPro multisamples, either the 64bit or 32bit path, not both.

Removing and reinstalling DimPro is not that difficult. The exact instructions are slightly different depending on if the synth was installed using the Control Center or a previous version of SONAR and if both 64bit and 32bit versions are needed. Here is the process:
  • run the uninstall - If installed using the Control Center the uninstall process is started by right-clicking DimPro in the Control Center, otherwise run the uninstaller from Windows Control Panel > Programs.
  • remove the registry keys HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software\dp and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Cakewalk Music Software\dp
  • run the installer - The Control Center will install the 64bit version. If you need the 32bit version installed too, run the DimPro installer by hand. The default location for the installer is C:\ProgramData\Cakewalk\Command Center\Downloads.
To determine which installation of CSC is being used look at the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Cakewalk Music Software\Cakewalk Sound Center\1.0\Installation Folder. The other location is not being used.
