For someone like me who paid good money for Sonar Producer 3 back in the day, I end up having to pay $50 more than the next guy who purchased X3 just a year ago if I want to upgrade to Sonar Platinum (which, I did order)..

However, I'm trying to figure out the logic here. The new guy who just purchased X3  qualifies to pay $50 less than the guy who purchased the same level Sonar back 7 years ago.  WHY? And why X3?? Cakewalk comes out with new version like every 9 months right?

Someone enlighten me here..

Because the differences between X3 and Platinum are lesser than those between SONAR of 7 years ago and SONAR today. You're getting a much bigger delta of features and functionality for only $50 more.

Someone who never owned SONAR pays the most. The further back you go, the more you pay to cover all the extra stuff that happened in that time.

What's your logic.
The price of Sonar has remained about the same year after year. Meaning, the price of Sonar 3 of tens years ago is the same roughly $500 as todays. Which then means, adjusted for inflation todays price could be $800. Even though the new buyer today is getting a whole lot more for a downward adjusted price of $300, as per a Sonar 3.
Gee, perhaps if everyone follows Walmart and raise the wage index, quit fighting bloody wars, and invent technologies to make the digital realm more secure...........perhaps it will soothe your logical emoticon.

Sonar 3 came out in 2003. If you had bought Sonar 4 you would have recieved an upgrade discount but to expect a discount after 12 years is a bit much. Even so Cakewalk still give you one. And you're complaining about that.

Sonar's release cycle has been approximately annual if not a bit longer. Certainly not every 9 months.

I've paid good money for every version of Sonar and benefit from an upgrade discount every release.

Rest assured those of us who upgraded every release since SONAR 3 will have paid (overall) A LOT more than you will.

That was 8 releases for me. Even at an average of $100 per release, that's $800 I'm in for.

I'm the one who should be crying foul on you.

In other words, about two and a half reels of 2" magnetic tape...or 2/3 the cost of my TEAC 3340S four-track recorder, which came with...well, nothing.

Price be darned, Sonar Platinum is fantastic! It is without reservation the best Sonar Cakewalk has ever released.

As a matter of fact its worth a great deal more then the full asking price. It may be the best DAW ever. Plus it will be getting better with all the cool stuff yet to be released.

When CW is back from being snowed in expect a lot of activity from them in making real the membership you will be part of.  But even as it stands now it is superb.

You talk about $50  as if it meant something when the progress they have made is spectacular. When you get it I have no doubt you will be totally amazed.

Can we just ban all the trolls/whiners? You always have a choice, but trolling on a board makes you look weak. You can't or don't want scrounge up $100 or $200 every year? Then DON'T.

Or....

You could actually call up customer service or write an official email or letter explaining your concerns.

Sadly, I think there is a big non-troll contingent whining. This isn't like regulating air or water, it is a luxury product. I've heard Reaper is cheap.

No not a troll.. I do see great benefits in Sonar and compared to other DAWs they offer the most bang for the buck.. however think about this point .. I paid $500 for Sonar 3 which according to many on here contained a lot less content and features.. vs the guy who purchased X3 for same
recently..

I also wonder why they discount wasn't given to owners of X1-X2 as it would seem logical to include that series
