I have been using Cakewalk products since the 1980s, starting with the Cakewalk 1.0 sequencer.
Currently I use Sonar X3.
I am totally opposed to the new subscription program for Sonar Platinum.  It is a blatant cash grab.
My philosophy is that I do not do business with people who want to rip me off. No ifs, ands or buts.
This will be the end of my 28 year relationship with Cakewalk.

I'm sure staff will come along soon to patiently repeat what is all over this forum if you took even one minute to bother.  I'm not staff, so I can be more of an a-hole about it.  BYE.  i can understand being cynical.  I have Platinum and i still maintain some cynicism and wait and see attitude. If you took a second, you would see you still have the option to purchase just as you have in the past, but you are too stuck on your rhetoric to bother. It smells of trolling, but i will give benefit of doubt that that you used Cakewalk products for over 20 years and decided now was the time to throw away a 20+ year relationship without bothering to look at the facts.  Some people dump spouses after decades of marriage over toothpaste so i don't underestimate the stupidity of my fellow man. If you wan to just have a botch rant and leave without at least having a closer look at what you are ranting, BYE. I might one day decide this is not for me, but I hope i have the sense to know what i am actually ticked off at.

Good on ya. And just think how much Starbucks coffee you could order with the $149 you save by leaving Sonar. Within a month you will be thirsty again.

One post in 28 years is possible.  I have about that much time with Cakewalk and I have not posted in the forums for almost a decade. I only ended up here because of the new subscription email and had just about the same reaction as the initial poster. Of course, I've calmed down quite a bit, but for old timers like us, this is a bit shocking at first.

I don't think it is wise to have such a strong reaction and to throw the "BYE" card out there because the boards here and at most other software sites represent the tip of the iceberg in terms of the user base. It makes it seem like the site might be too much of a fan boy accretion.

From the short while I have been here, I have found the forum user base to be very helpful. It would probably be best to tell the poster to sit back and cool off for a while. Give it time for the idea of change to sink in ... you can pretty much go on as you have with this subscription scheme even if there is a real bump in annual expense from previous incarnations.

Yes, one post in all of this time. And when I see how rude people can be, I am glad of it.
$149 to upgrade for one year and $20 a month each and every month after that is not cheap.  it cost me $149 to upgrade to X3 14 months ago. So, if the current plan had been in place then it would have cost me $280 since then to stay current. That is a significant price increase. I object to paying the monthly fee. And I object to no support unless I pay the monthly fee. I don't agree with that way of doing business.

I'm the farthest thing from a fanboy.  i say what i feel regardless.  There are plenty of things i don't like about Sonar.  I'm also a Logic user as well. I fully understand the frustration of change and I understand mistrust as well as anyone on here.  What  I don't understand is why after 20+ years you wouldn't bother to at least get your facts straight before flying off the handle and making accusations. I have never had trouble getting support, even when i was not on the current incarnation of Sonar. I just don't see support hanging up on you if you call in with an issue with X3. Again, if you took some time to read you would see hat the monthly fee is an option.  You could simply just pay upgrade price as usual and any concerns about monthly fee becomes a non-issue for you. yes, I'm "rude".  I'm not trying to be your friend or neighbor.  Just someone being honest with someone who is behaving irrationally. I'll leave the coddling to Cake staff.

For those who think my "BYE" was over the top, comparing a three letter dismissal is nothing compared to slanderous accusations of ripping people off. Ripping someone off would involve not delivering what the person paid for. If i were to come to your backyard and basically call you a thief without having my facts straight, i doubt you would just take it in stride. If he does not like the new model, fine. if he wants to leave, fine. But, if he wants to make one post in all this time just to falsely make accusations of thievery.....BYE.
