There's also the point that someone saying "no ifs, no buts, this is the end" isn't showing an interest in being persuaded. So why would any of us bother?

The point of making such a post in the first place eludes me, to be honest. Cowboydan's mention of Starbucks reminds me of something pertinent. I decided to stop going to Starbucks last year. So the first thing I did was.... not go to Starbucks. I then continued to not go to Starbucks.

I have been using Cakewalk products since the 1980s, starting with the Cakewalk 1.0 sequencer.
Currently I use Sonar X3.
I am totally opposed to the new subscription program for Sonar Platinum.  It is a blatant cash grab.
My philosophy is that I do not do business with people who want to rip me off. No ifs, ands or buts.
This will be the end of my 28 year relationship with Cakewalk.

Hi Dave! How's it going? How many alts is this now? I've lost count. It's more than the number of fingers and toes I have, so it's challenging.

$149 to upgrade for one year, and $20 a month each and every month after that...

Can some confirm for me if this is correct, or has he got his wires crossed?

I don't think it is wise to have such a strong reaction and to throw the "BYE" card out there because the boards here and at most other software sites represent the tip of the iceberg in terms of the user base. It makes it seem like the site might be too much of a fan boy accretion.

From the short while I have been here, I have found the forum user base to be very helpful. It would probably be best to tell the poster to sit back and cool off for a while.

People like you are great. You encourage tolerance and patience, and express your views well. I wish there were more people like you on this planet.

However, in this case, we have a troll who has been coming in here multiple times a day for several days, using multiple alts and saying the same thing - "I've been a Cakewalk user for years, this is a blatant ripoff, Cakewalk are liars, it's a subscription program where you don't get to keep what you own [false]. etc. etc." Then he usually graduates to self-exploding arguments. In one of his most recent ones he linked to an article that totally undermined what he said. He has no interest in a dialog, and has some kind of libelous and defamatory agenda for reasons I cannot fathom. His mind is made up, so he is on a fruitless search to prove that he's right. Because he's wrong, this search could go on forever. This has been pointed out by numerous people, even including some who are uncomfortable with the model of software ownership (not rental) and distribution that Cakewalk has proposed.

He has been doing this for a while, since Tuesday IIRC. All his alts are users with a handful of posts, and they share common ISPs, among which he rotates. He has graduated to ISPs that are more difficult to trace than the ones he was using several days ago, and flatters himself by thinking he's clever to be able to do this. He is basically attempting to do a low-level denial of service attack and prevent an intelligent debate from occurring.

The only change in his MO was he has stopped saying how crappy Cakewalk software is when people called him on why didn't he come to the forums or contact tech support so he could get them resolved.

Those who have been on these boards the past few days are pretty fed up, as am I. His constant trolling and saying the same thing over and over and over and over again prevents those who have legitimate questions and concerns from finding the answers among his drivel.

There is a very, very slim chance that this is indeed a new member to the forums. However, it would require someone using similar domains, with a similar writing style, use of the same general vocabulary, and having the exact same opinions as the self-admitted troll (one of his user names was "Trolleater.")

I love your attitude, but I'm 99.9% sure this person doesn't deserve it.

This is why he's here. To spread misinformation. I highly doubt he's from a competitor, I know pretty much all of them and they're class acts who enjoy actual competition that results in better products. This is just someone with a warped agenda and too much time on his hands.

NOT TRUE!!! He spelled "X3" correctly. So there.

Lots of good stuff from Craig there, nothing to add except a seconding to all of it.

As a fan of a well-turned and apposite phrase, though, I'll single this out. I'm going to be plagiarising this for years to come, in all manner of contexts, I already know.

Not for nothing does he make a chunk of his living as a writer.

One post in 28 years is possible.  I have about that much time with Cakewalk and I have not posted in the forums for almost a decade. I only ended up here because of the new subscription email and had just about the same reaction as the initial poster. Of course, I've calmed down quite a bit, but for old timers like us, this is a bit shocking at first.

Give it time for the idea of change to sink in ... you can pretty much go on as you have with this subscription scheme even if there is a real bump in annual expense from previous incarnations.

You use the word "subscription". There is no such thing. Nor did an email from CW say there was.  Really nothing much has changed at all. What has been added is an option for CW to extend credit for those that can't buy Sonar out right. Otherwise you can buy the upgrade just as you have in the past. There is nothing to worry about.

If you are listening to a troll and not to forum members that have been here working for years helping people with their problems and issues. That is not good judgment.

You are welcome here and I hope that you are more selective in who you choose to listen to.
