I would avoid using instrument tracks. Also make sure you have the latest patches.

I'm using the WDM/KS drivers with Roland's Quad-capture. The ASIO drivers on this thing are useless. Should I be using something else? I was told by the guy who sold it to me that these are the drivers I should be using. I also tested all the others and had the best luck with these.

When I enable the asio drivers and go to preferences driver settings playback timing master is set to "none" and offers no other alternatives.

how are the asio drivers useless ? you are 100% you enabled them ? and NO other card is enabled..

then, well just go into the config panel for it, and it's a matter of looking at the latency, upping your buffers if your having issues..

90% of the time asio is the best option , obv. not if your using 2 cards

Agreed.. you should be using ASIO. Also, use 24 or 16 as the bit depth and 44.1KHz as the sample rate.

Rarely should you ever listen to anything someone working in a music store has to say.

Seriously? The quad capture doesn't have proper ASIO support? That can't be... Can you set it to ASIO, quit SONAR, then reopen? Does the timing master offer an alternative?

Also, if you're having general driver issues, and since you mentioned instrument tracks, your problem coujld be on the MIDI side. Do you have any devices connected? Do they work properly?

RE: instrument tracks... you can add an instance of TP the old fashioned way... add the synth and tell it to create a MIDI and audio track for the first stereo outputs. Do you have the same problems with that setup?

Finally, have you tried adding an instrument track w/ a different synth?

I'd first firgure out what is going with your ASIO... then try to rule out the issue being specific to TP... then specific to instrument tracks... then make sure your MIDI is generally in working order...

Take a deep breath.  Sonar is not a piece of crap.  Have to tell you, my Sonar Producer Expanded install is pretty rock solid.  I don't think it has crashed yet.  Although with Producer I was having an odd crash.....  Had I not gone to, "Expanded," I probably would have done a complete uninstall and reinstall of Producer.

The thing is, "blaming Sonar," is pretty lame imo.  And, "I've seen Reason crash."  I've seen Cubase, Ableton, Logic, Pro-tools, Renoise, Sonar, Reaper crash..  They all crash.

Lot's of times the crashes are caused by vst's.  Sometimes the crashes come from bugs in the program.  Plenty of times the crashes have to do with a certain computer spec and setup.

That's what you are running? That is a big red flag.

If you don't want to use Rolands drivers, you could try Asio4all, "google it..."  And what build of Sonar are you using?  If you purchased Sonar during these June sales, its probably worth mention...  "Install producer..  Than install the updates in the proper order.  I think you have to install C, before it will let you install D.

Are you running D?  You didn't even mention the build you are running...   Ten years into production..  lets get our bug reports sorted

Example Bug Report: Part of my spec

x64 system on AMD A6 running radeon graphics with 2200 hertz and 4 cores.  Win 7 home premium, on a 1 terabyte disk at 7200 rpm.. etc, etc.

But when your bug report is basically:

Sonar sucks.  Its crap.  Cakewalk blows.  The software is is junk.

Are you even being serious?  Cause all the DAWs are going to crash, and people wine and complain all the time.  A lot of these problems are actually people not practicing how to produce, and becoming a better artist.  Poor carpenters like to blame their hammer!

I am brand spanking new to Sonar.  Never used it before this June.  However, I've been producing 7 years now..  I've got this thing running, "rock solid," on my system.

Now, "rock solid," for most audio software is a little bit of a facetious joke.  But in all seriousness; Sonar's latest Producer Expanded build is pretty stable here.  I had some crashes with Producer when I first installed..  The things coming along now..  Its running, its really stable

+  The Sonar software is really amazing.  I mean, if you were a totally broke azz musician using Reaper, Renoise, and your old version of Live 7, that you bought, on a major discount..  You would know..  Sonar is like, "next level."   That is not to say Live and Renoise are bad.  Live is really good.  Renoise is my love.  Reaper is a piece of

you need help or what?

first of all change your drivers asap to asio,if there not working its because you didnt set them up right or downloaded the wrong driver or failed on the install.
the roland quad capture doesnt use anything..ANYTHING except asio

i really hate to lay it on you like this, but youve been doing this for over a decade?
and dont know that asio is industry red book standard?
youve got to be kidding me ?

im glad youve calmed down atleast, you will see youll get your problem solved by just taking a breath and listening  a little bit.
you were crashing because you were using windows soundcard drivers and not your rolands.

When I enable the asio drivers and go to preferences driver settings playback timing master is set to "none" and offers no other alternatives.

once you swith over your drivers leave sonar reboot, but before you do unplug the roland and wait 5-10 seconds, sonar needs to reset itself to new driver mode.

thats why your seeing NONE.

if you go into sonar and still see it,do it again.
untill you see it.
