Working on a project where I want to uswe SI-Bass.  Other projects seem to work normally, but this project, I insert the bass, it plays when I pluck a string, and starts when I start the project with a bass midi line input.  Very soon after starting, it stops reproducing sound.  Nothing I do will bring the sound back.  Opening the interface, the controls respond, but no sound is produced and the string does not vibrate when plucked.  Unlike other projects using public domain midi, this file came from Hit Trax, a retail karaoke source of midi files.  I have looked at the event log for this file and removed control and wheel entries so there is nothing but note events.  Still the midi does not trigger the SI bass.  It is in the SI-Bass as the midi will trigger other synths.  What is wrong with the SI-Bass and how can I get it working?

Thanks!!

If you use the same midi with another SI (Strings for example), what happens?

Also, what happens if you create a new project with same midi and SI-Bass?

I've found that with some midi files I have had to transpose the SI-Bass up a full 12 octaves in order to get the notes to play.  It's the little scroll button next to the program name in the SI-Bass interface.  If I don't do that some notes may play and some may not.
Hope that helps.

I hope you mean 12 semitones (notes or half-steps).  12 octaves beyond any point on a keyboard is waaaaaay above even dog-hearing levels.

Yeah, the notes need to be in the range of the instrument and sfz engine synths (the SI series, DimPro, Rapture, Session Drummer) can go silent if they receive unexpected MIDI data. When they go silent, I believe the only way to get them playing again is to reload the project or replace the synth with another instance.

Duh...  Yes of course, I meant semitones ( 1 octave).  My excuse is it's Friday.

I've had issues using the SI bass in the past. It seems a little buggy for some reason. On my old computer it would often cause the audio engine to stop. So stopped using for a long time. I tried it the other day with my new computer and it seems fine now. And yes for some reason they have set it in a non standard note values. I have to transpose up 12 ( 1 octave) from what played fine in TTS-1. PS try the Jazz bass patch the default sucks.

I have found that some MIDI data would not work with my soft instruments.  It is always the same solution.
You need to check "Do not intercept NRPNS". Depending on how you access this may be tricky.
I think the best way to set it is to GO TO  utilities / cakewalk plug-in manager / click on the VST soft interment
(IS BASS) When you click on the soft synth, you will be able to access the (plug-in properties)
Then check the "Do not intercept NRPNS"
This can be set for any soft instrument if your MIDI data is not working.

NOTE: You will need to restart your DAW for the change to take place.

peace!

I'm fairly confident that transposition is the correct answer. A lot of bass synths/patches are programmed to sound an octave or more lower than written. I presume the intent is to make them easier to work with on a 61- or 49-key controller. The easiest way to deal with pre-existing MIDI files that don't use this convention is to enter a positive Key Offset value in the MIDI track.

I was also having trouble with SI-Bass and Dimension Pro as well. Dave000's suggestion about checking the "Do not intercept NRPN" worked for me as well as transposing the octave.

Thank you Dave000. I had been having this problem for a couple of days.
