  • [UPDATE] Crashing With BFD3

Hey Everyone,

I'm using SONAR Platinum and I just installed BFD3 a few days ago.  I'm not having very much luck though.
I can insert BFD3 in the Synth Rack and it will open fine.  I can load a kit and it loads right up.  But when I try to either sound one of the kit pieces individually or play any groove from the library...I get the dreaded faded white screen with a pop up box that says..."SONARPLT.exe Has Stopped Working.  A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.  Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

Any thoughts as to what may be causing this?

Did BFD3 create a crash log the next time you opened it?
If so you should send it to techsupport@fxpansion.com .

Was BFD3 running fine in X3 (if you had X3 of course?)
I don't think the problem is with BFD3 even if other vsti's are running fine because nothing has changed in BFD3 whereas platinum has changed.
There have been some other posts from people having issues with platinum and BFD3 so maybe search those and see if they offer any solutions.

Good luck

Steve

I have BFD3 running in Sonar Platinum without any issues, use it every day flawlessly, though I installed my BFD3 when running Sonar X3. So we know it works in Platinum, and your computer specs are certainly up for running BFD3.

I'm thinking something happened in the install or it's a configuration issue.
Can you offer a bit  more information for troubleshooting ?

How is BFD3 set up . . .
Installed on OS drive with samples / grooves on another drive, or OS and samples all on the same drive ?
You're sure you installed the 64 bit version ?
How are you inserting it into Sonar, as a Simple Instrument track, or with Audio and Midi tracks separated ?
Are you loading BDF3 onto your "Normal" start up template with other plugins loaded as well ?
Do you have a certain preset loading on BFD3 start up, in Preferences - Data ? Have you tried setting it to "don't load anything" and then calling up a different preset after the plugin has loaded ?
Are you able to browse the different Groove Pallettes before the crashing occurs ?
What about running BFD3 in stand alone mode, outside of Sonar, does that work ?

If it's crashing Sonar there will be a dump file. The smart guys look at those files to find the culprit. You may want to find that file and send it to tech support for a look.

Does it work in stand alone mode? Sounds like BFD is crashing Sonar when it tries to use the audio engine. Call the wizards.

BFD3 is working fine with Platinum here as well.

Hey Steve.  Yeah....BOY do I have crash logs!!! :)
I have been trying to get some answers from the folks at Fxpansion, but WOW....talk about slow customer service.
You may get one response from them today and then not here anything for 4 or 5 days after that.  I know I'm not their only customer and they must be busy as well, but it's a pretty painful process so far.

Thanks

I'm thinking something happened in the install or it's a configuration issue.  How is BFD3 set up . . .

I've been using BFD2 for a few years now.  Even with X3e and all was good.  Then I upgraded to Platinum and a week later also upgraded to BFD3.  I foolishly never tested BFD2 in Platinum - I never had a concern that it wouldn't work.

And yes....I am using BFD the correct way....through the Synth Rack, etc, etc.
I too believe something is going wrong on the install.  I have completely uninstalled BFD2 and BFD3 (even deleting their folders from the registry) and did total reinstalls of both and I still have the same issue.

I can insert BFD3....It opens right up.  I can load a kit....It loads the kit fast.  If I try to click on an individual kit piece or play a groove I get the infamous "faded white screen" with the pop-up that says "SONARPLT.exe has stopped working"!!!  And then Sonar just shuts right down.

I know eventually it will get resolved, but until then - it's VERY frustrating.

Does BFD3 work ok if you run it standalone?

Actually no.  It does the same thing in standalone.

That's why I believe something is going wrong during the install.
I am installing from the USB.  That's what I purchased.  And the install seems "iffy" when I use it.  I don't really know how else to describe it.  I have even used it in a different port each time to make sure it wasn't my PC.

Thanks

When you uninstalled BFD3, did you delete the BFD3 stuff in the registry before reinstalling? I installed from the USB drive, also. Works fine in Platinum here.
