Hi folks,

Have recently retired Sonar 1.3 and my old Win2000 computer after nearly 15 years and thousands of hours of fun and starting over again with a new computer and Sonar X3 Studio. (set up listed in signature below..)   I already see a some familiar old stuff in X3 and lots of interesting-looking new stuff.  But at the moment we're stuck on Square 1, trying to get some audio into and out of Sonar.   Would appreciate any help...

*  Have downloaded and successfully installed latest drivers and firmware for the US-4x4 and when I look at Sonar/Audio Devices it shows:
INPUT DRIVERS       OUTPUT DRIVERS
US-4x4 in 01            US-4x4 out 01
US-4x4 in 03            US-4x4 out 02

* Can plug up a guitar to input of the US-4x4 and get audio out through the monitors.  Tried arming an audio track in Sonar to record but ---> No signal through to Sonar.... the meters don't move.

*  Tried loading a .Bun file of an old Sonar project and the all tracks appear to load up ---> But won't playback.  The Now marker moves through the song but no audio heard and the meters don't move.  The tracks are a solid color (no waveform showing) and say 'Busy'  (?)

* I've been to Windows Control Panel| Sounds ... The US-4x4 driver is active and I have disabled the (3) other drivers listed there.

Can anyone please give me a clue what to try next?

thanks,
Ken

Have you turned on Input Echo?

That usually means SONAR is not seeing the interface. Make sure something is specified as the Playback Timing Master in SONAR.

Don't forget that the TASCAM control panel can set the I/O as stereo or individual mono.

Hi Craig,

Okay, very good.  Your suggestions took care of those issues, so now we've got sound and SONAR X3 is getting a lot more interesting!  Thanks for the quick response and good help.

Just out of curiosity, was it the playback master thing or input echo that solved the problem?

Actually, both changes were necessary.  So audio In and Out are working now.
Also: MIDI is working using a keyboard controller with the demo soft-synths, and have got time-code out controlling the drum machine.  Pretty interesting jumping from Sonar 1.3 to X3... Some of the familiar concepts are still there and then lots of cool new stuff to explore!
