  • Dragging and dropping Track Icons from the Browser

I find that dragging and dropping Icons from the browser onto tracks in the Track View and the Console very inconsistent.  I'd say 20% of the time dropping the icon would not take no matter where I tried to place it on a track.  I'd have to load the icon through the right click menu.

I'm running into more niggles than I expected.  Nothing to put me totally off but it's definitely slowing me down.

Track icons were one of those features I thought I'd never use, but actually regularly use.

I do normally add them from them to the console view and I haven't been having a hard time dragging from Browser but I'll play with it some more. I don't modify track icons too often.

I wonder if they're the track icons I contributed. Maybe I did something out of spec?!?

In console view, if you alt+click the image it opens the window to pick your icon, but I can't drag items from the browser to the channel strip and drop them into place.

In track view, I can drag the icons and drop them onto the track.

I must have been mistaken about how I was doing it when I posted above.

Projects I created in 8.5 need to have the tracks cloned to get the drop-icons and color-follows-bus to work.

No, I don't think this is anything out of spec.  One particular time I dragged an icon out of the browser onto a bus track but it was the wrong icon (thanks to the inability to preview a thumbnail in the browser) and it stuck.  But when I tried to drag the correct icon from the browser, it would not replace the previously dropped icon.  I had to do that through the Windows style menu.

I must be missing something here. To put an icon on a track I right click in the track header and 'choose icon', which I've always believed to be the orthodox way.  Why drag it from the browser?

Strange.... today I can't drag an icon into the Console view at all.  I don't think I was imagining this yesterday but who knows?

It's just faster to drag them out, that's all.

That's what I do as well. Either way, it's two clicks to get to the folder with the icons (unless the Media tab isn't selected in the Browser, which adds another click when using the Browser option, or the track icons are already open in the Browser, in which case no further clicks are needed).

The difference in doing it the "orthodox" way is when you've opened the folder with the icon, you can see the icon thumbnail (assuming you've set Windows to show icons). The difference with dragging from the Browser is once the folder is open, you can drag a bunch of icons over whereas when selecting one track at a time, the folder window closes after selecting the icon.

Of course if you use track templates, the icon is already there.
