I must be missing something here. To put an icon on a track I right click in the track header and 'choose icon', which I've always believed to be the orthodox way.

That's what I do as well. Either way, it's two clicks to get to the folder with the icons (unless the Media tab isn't selected in the Browser, which adds another click when using the Browser option, or the track icons are already open in the Browser, in which case no further clicks are needed).

The difference in doing it the "orthodox" way is when you've opened the folder with the icon, you can see the icon thumbnail (assuming you've set Windows to show icons). The difference with dragging from the Browser is once the folder is open, you can drag a bunch of icons over whereas when selecting one track at a time, the folder window closes after selecting the icon.

Of course if you use track templates, the icon is already there.

And if you have a have a keyboard shortcut bound to View Media Files and keep the Icons selected there, it's very fast to drag and drop them.

Right now, I'm spending a lot of time setting up and familiarizing myself once again with the SPlat features.  I'm just finding a lot of them that give unexpected results in my particular set up.

I believe a lot of it has to do with my three monitor system and the various screensets that I have set up.

BTW, screensets have a few things that make me go "Huh?", as well.

OK, I finally remembered what I used to do a few years back.  The best way (IMHO) to place icons on your tracks in the console view is to open a window in Windows Explore and navigate to your icons folder.  From that window you can preview the icons as well as drag and drop them on your tracks.
