Gerry
Monthly payment is an option not an obligation and in my case it is a benefit and had nothing at all to do with being able to afford it or not.

At the moment you cannot try it before you buy it and I would never buy any DAW software without seeing if it suits my needs beforehand. No trial means one monthly payment gets you the full works with no restrictions to evaluate for a month. A great alternative to paying the full amount upfront and running the possibility of being stuck with the license of a Daw that you are not going to use and at the moment you cannot sell either

I am surprised that Cake has not promoted the idea as a benefit but rather pushed "the those that can afford it and those that can't idea" which to be honest is not a good marketing pitch. We already have  the "I paid up front" brigaid puffing their chests out while some of the monthly's feeling its an admission of poverty in admitting they pay monthly.

Complete **** as apart from being smarter the monthly payers will pay more and therefore clearly have more money, so there.

regarding the 12 month thing, don't forget that while you can carry on using the version as-was at the end of your 12 months, you'll get no more updates after that unless you continue or extend your membership/subscription/mortgage for another 12...
fwiw, the main differences i see are:
  • monthly updates (rather than less frequent patches), but still a mix of new features and bug fixes
  • the membership (subscription/version license) renewal frequency is 12 months (rather than a slightly more arbitrary new "major" release, which could be, e.g., 18 months)
  • more focus on cakewalk to share "what's coming" than before
  • the monthly delivery of new stuff versus "when it's ready"
personally i'm really excited to see how the next 12 months pan out :-)

Not quite right, you can expire the membership after 12 months, keep the license, and then start another 12 months when it suits you.

Was exactly the same with X1, X2 and X3 etc.. No updates after a year of purchase, the only difference is this time the product is being updated continuously.. What's there not to like.... unless you hate having more than one option when buying a product...

you're quite correct, i made it sound like you couldn't "take a breather" when actually you could stop for some time, re-join(?) and then get right up-to-date with the latest version

it's the "updated continuously" thing i'm keen to see how this actually manifests itself, it's supposedly going to be monthly :-)

Paul P,
I get what you're saying. It's mindboggling to me that other people could possibly argue your basic point. You want to know how long the $149.00 price will last, so that you can budget that amount of money, if possible. Simple. End of story. It is basic, intelligent, financial planning. If something is "on sale", you want to know how long the sale will last, in hopes of being able to afford the sale price before the sale ends! That's all he's saying. It really has nothing to do with "membership", "subscription", "rental", or any thing else along those lines.

It is a fair, simple, and responsible question that some are asking. Instead of looking for ways to pick them apart, maybe the helpful thing to do would be to say, "Nobody knows but the Bakers", and leave it at that?

Sheesh.......

The specific question was answered the moment the info became available.  Back in post #29.

Yes. Precisely. So why did people spend the next several posts beating up on the guy (after the question was answered in post #29) because of his (in their eyes) "poor turn of a phrase"?

The "guy" you say people are beating up in #29 is Guitarmech111 who was the OP who asked a question, who wasn't quoted once after #29. Rather people were responding and correcting each other (right or wrong).

I guess it's funny when you don't read the thread properly

Treble Sheesh!

Cheers...
