None of these tips really addresses the underlying use case. I've submitted a feature request (again).

After comping, I Bounce the track to a new track and archive and hide original multi-take track.
I end up with a nice clean track to work with and I can always go back to the archived track if I change my mind.

I really think this does:
Select all the clips in a later comping section and Shift+drag them to occupy the lower lanes (assuming they don't overlap an earlier comping section). Then Remove Empty Take Lanes.

It's just three gestures instead of one. Given all the time and steps that go into recording and editing comps, I really don't see this as a lot of overhead, though I understand it would be nice if SONAR were smart enough to do it for you.

In any case, given Noel's comment about take management complexity and corner cases in your original thread, it might be a while before this feature become available:

Incidentally, did Rebuild Layers really work that well in X1? I seem to recall a lot of posts about unexpected/inscrutable results.

I personally prefer Sonar to NOT do this automatically. If takes are being moved to take lanes that they aren't originally part of, I need to know what goes where.

To clarify 'Automatically' means having an option to select it.
Again, I'm looking for a quick & simple one click way to consolidate lanes that do not contain overlapped or cross-faded clips that take up unneeded lanes or space.

I usually don't flatten or bounce clips to a single track. I keep in any edited clips in the final project for future edits, redoes or versions so this would be handy.

Well, yes, OK, but that really just describes the problem. It's not even a work-around, IMO.

I don't recall. It's possible. The point is that the default way track layers were organized worked fine, in my use case at any rate.

Note: I don't think we are asking for a change in the default way Take Lanes are managed. It's fine, and appropriate. We'd just like SONAR to provide an automated way of cleaning up after our "mess". It should be easy to implement.

Alternatively, if there was an option for SONAR to ignore the concept of a "take" as something to protect the integrity of, and just put newly recorded audio into an existing lane that has no existing clips after the current NOW time, that would be even better. Or "[x] re-use existing take lanes"  or "[x] create new take lane only when necessary".

I understand why this would be useful for you, but I don't see an easy way to do this without doing damage to the chronologically ordered take lanes paradigm.

I believe the several ways to deal with this have already been offered, you could always submit a feature request though.

Big Thanks to GregGraves and Brundlefly for awesome posts.  Excellent stuff on organizing a comp system. I know it didn't necessarily solve this problem, but it sure helped me.
