There are a few things mentioned in Sonar's Help documents about what causes dropouts but there are probably no end to them.

Especially with my laptop, whenever I let it hibernate or sleep and then wake it up, some things don't work right. I usually have a lot more issues with Sonar and other programs than I do when shutting it down completely. Kind of like it doesn't fully wake up from it's sleepy state. (And feeding it morning coffee doesn't seem to help either.)

I find a complete reboot solves a lot of little issues, especially with USB driven audio and MIDI. Windows seems to like mishandling USB whenever it gets the chance.

Just a thought.

Makes perfect sense.

I never put my laptop to sleep or hibernate it.

This ^^^should eliminate those issues.

I thnk in sleep and hibernate modes there is a disconnection between Sonar and drivers etc also USB connections.

Some of these devices are only scanned at boot time. As others have suggested general practice for DAWS is to not use Sleep or Hibernate functions.

I recall reading somewhere that you should NEVER deploy hibernate/sleep mode on a DAW.

It could have been a CW employee, or a DAW make (i.e. Scott or Jim).

For me, I had my box set "Always On."

Then quite a few times I would walk downstairs to do something with the intention of returning, only to get sidetracked and I wouldn't go back. This would leave my box on for days at a time sometimes. : (

So, I set it to go to sleep after an hour. But when I do go back to work, first thing I do is restart. I do it because I just don't trust that everything is back to "normal."

That's just what I have started doing in the past year. YMMV

Sonar, and some other programs and devices, do not wake up well from sleep/hibernation, at times.

I always set everything to high performance power management options, and do not have issues - I am on my computer for an average of 14 hours a day, so it is not particularly any issue for me to have it set that way anyway.

When I DO leave the computer to do something, or sleep, I usually make sure I am out of Sonar, and if so, I then shut it down.

Somebody gave me a tip rather than set both min/max CPU power on 100 in Windows, to set it to 99 to avoid spikes and fan noise....

I'm trying that now.
