  • Is there any need to "Update/crossover" to the new CbB, BEFORE the first CbB update?

Seeing that my current version of SPlat is working fine, is there any need to get the Bandlab account and download their version (still keeping my SPlat installed to port over 3rd party plugs, etc), at this point?
And WHEN they offer an upgrade, "switch over" at that time?

The tweaks in the new version (piano roll theme, etc) aren't a necessity at this point.
By waiting, does anyone see any problems with that?  Kinda like..."if it aint broke...."

Lastly...I see that Bandlab is labeling it as "early access"...  Is that something to take advantage of now.

oh...and lastly, lastly... Yes I've read most of the stickies, etc.. and that we are NOT to fear about installing the new version, that great care has been taken to not mess with the old SPlat, etc...  but... I'm not seeing an upgrade now, except for the pno roll, etc.

Set up the BandLab account now so they can migrate your Cakewalk account. Use the same email address. Upgrade to CbB when you feel the need.

I am doing the same. I see no need to update at this time since Sonar is running just fine as is. I have signed up with  the same email etc and I am ready to get on it when I feel it is warranted.

I felt this way at first but changed my mind, There's no real reason not to just get it over with and move on. Once I fixed the theme issue I see no difference at all. It's a none upgrade really. A lot of the improvements are invisible unless you use those things.
Just like the update we have been getting for the last few years  you can opt in or opt out.

The one thing that Noel said that got my attention is the new CbB is better integrated with W10.
It will be more stable than in the past.
I will see if this is what I've been waiting for to prevent random crashes.

I get what you are saying, I guess having been in the IT industry for so long it is just second nature to NOT want to be first out with anything. I rather have others find bugs and stuff and get it sorted before I get it, if I can help it :)
Since it is a "none upgrade" like you say I am not missing out on anything as far as I can tell so short term I can continue to use Sonar as always and wait for a month or so for potential issues to be sorted and move to the new version then. I am getting a new PC too and that plays into this, I rather not mess with anything atm since everything works really well.

The Win10 compatibility statement IS interesting though.

FYI Quote from Noel;
There are also other internal things in CbB. One small one was the code is compiled for the latest windows SDK which makes it even more Win10 compatible. Its pretty much the same amount of things you would get in a typical new months release last year. Of course there are a ton of things on top of that we had to do to make it a brand new app independent of SONAR. But of course most users don't care about that stuff :)

Well I go back and forth between the two regularly to see if their are any issues like opening a project in one and then opening it in the other. Stuff like that. No issues. I still use my PLat 99.9% of the time because of habit.

So, IMHO, why wait? Just sayin................Anything can happen.....

I grabbed CbB on day one just to get a jump on it. I figured I'd find all the problems early on, then set it aside. But everything went so smoothly I saw no reason not to make the switch permanent. I've been using it daily ever since, only pulling up SPlat a few times to see if CbB had left something out, but aside from dropping that dither option everything (that I need) is in there. C'mon in, the water's fine.

That said, unless you're craving a dark background on your PRV, the only reason I can think of for jumping in immediately is to make sure you get your "dibs" in and assure BandLab knows who you are.

However, if someone's coming from any edition of SONAR other than Platinum, they'll essentially be getting a free upgrade. The only folks who won't want to make the jump are those running on a 32-bit Windows machine. There is no 32-bit version of CbB, and I wouldn't be surprised if they elected not to offer one in the name of streamlining/downsizing the development process. At this time, the dev "team" is primarily Noel.
