  • Is there any need to "Update/crossover" to the new CbB, BEFORE the first CbB update? (p.2)

Exactly how it's been for me, I was mad at the new version at first but  I've been 2 days full time CbB and I will probably won't open SPlat again.
I even learned about the theme editor something I knew diddly squat about before.

Hi there,
what means CdB and SPlat?

Thanks, Tomas

CbB = Cakewalk by BandLab
Splat = SONAR Platinum

I'm installing CbB side-by-side with Platinum but only until I verify there aren't any issues. Sonar won't be developed going forward, CbB will, so it's not much of a head-scratcher.

except scratching until it's "verified there aren't any issues."    Seems like safe water though from most reports.

All you have to do to avoid problems is to make sure your VST scan paths are the same in CbB as in SPlat. They do share the same registry key for the VST inventory, and the same scanner executable. So if paths are left out of CbB and a scan is executed (which it will do on first run) when you go back into SONAR some plugins may be missing.

No doubt this will be addressed down the road, after Noel's had time to rewrite VSTScan.exe so that CbB has its own version and its own registry tree. But for now it's at worst a minor inconvenience, and you only have to fix it once.

Hey bitflipper they actually do not share the same vst inventory. I already took care of that. That's why there is a full VST scan when you install CbB.
SONAR's inventory is here HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cakewalk Music Software\SONAR\Cakewalk VST X64
CbB's inventory is here HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cakewalk Music Software\Cakewalk\Cakewalk VST X64

So they are already completely independent.

PS: I just added migration from a prior VST Platinum/Artist,/Studio etc inventory to the new CbB inventory. This should greatly improve the first run experience if users choose to migrate settings since it will no longer need to rescan the entire set of VST's but use the results of prior scans. This is the most troublesome area when we do new products so I think it will improve things a lot.
It will be there in the next update of CbB.

Thanks for the correction, Noel. After installing CbB, I looked for a BandLab registry tree and couldn't find one because I was searching on "BandLab" rather than "Cakewalk".

Can I presume it now also imports the VST scan paths, so that it's no longer necessary to edit them before scanning?

Bit, does this mean your VST Inventory tool is toast? If so, I will mod mine ASAP to handle CbB.

Seeing that Bit and Scook know way more than I do about computers, etc... THIS is why I don't feel like migrating the CbB at this point.
Actually see no hurry until this "early release" is superceded  with a more *official* release....which I expect will come waaay before Win10 destroys my SPlat.
