But i want different effects for each instance. If i understand you correctly that only will let me use 1 specific Guitar Rig setting.

That's the point. If you want different sounds for each guitar, then of course you need six instances of
Guitar Rig if you want to have all of them adjustable and active.
Or... you use only one instance and track, record guitar #1, and bounce the track, then clear or archive the original. Then change the sounds and record guitar #2 etc. That way you'd only have one instance of that resource hog VST active at a time. In this workflow you must remember to save the preset for each guitar in case you need to re-record something.

Hmm right. Ok then how do i specifically point the guitar to a certain track so it won't affect other tracks? I just can't figure that out. If i create a new track it uses the same guitar as the previous track unless i insert my cable in the next free input in my octa.

How can i create 6 guitar tracks while keeping my cable plugged into 1 input in the octa capture?

Also each track has an input and output widget where you can over ride any automatically chosen input.

you want to select comping mode.
You start recordings doi you the then stop recording. When you next start recording Sonar will play over what's already been recorded on a different lane within the same track. When you expand track view there are 2 icons in the left lower corner. The left most icon toggles lanes view on and off. The following part of the help file should get you going.

Thanks. I'll check that out for sure.

Put your GR plug-in on a bus and either set the outputs of the  6 gtr tracks to that bus or insert a send an each track that points to that bus if you want the dry signal to still go somewhere else. The inputs don't matter, it's only going to record onto the track that you have armed for recording.

Correct. Your OP gave me the impression that you didn't want multiple instances though. As has been said, track templates are your friend if you want GR to automatically be plugged in on a guitar track when you open one, but then you say that you don't want that either ? I'm not sure I'm following what you're asking any more. BTW GR is a bit of a cpu hog, so you might have to manage that situation a bit if you're going to have several instances working at once.

Doesn't that just say something like input 1 l/r input 2 l/r. That still doesn't tell me how to assign the guitar to 1 specific track so it doesn't affect other tracks.

Well apparently i'm forced to open a new guitar rig for each track i iust learned so that question is not valid anymore.

Answering your post #15
Yes, on the track into which you record you select the input you want. When you select 1 left it automatically stops being available for any other track.

You are going to run into problem though. daws do not record the fx. They record audio dry after which you have to bounce the audio.
during this process the recorded audio is processed by the fx and converted to audio

Technically you could record your guitar once and process it through GR 6 different ways.

I think you need to tell us a little bit more about what it is you want to do.

I want to record 6 guitar tracks. Or 6 bass tracks or 6 keyboard tracks.

I plug in 1 guitar to the first input of my octa. 1 bass to the second. A keyboard in the usb.

I then start a track, i record the guitar. I then start a new track and record the bass guitar and start a new midi track and record the keyboard.
Now i want to record another guitar track but this causes problems.
I start a new track but now track 1 and 4 both use the guitar in my left octa capture input. It i play the guitar it shows in both tracks. It uses the settings from Guitar Rig from track 1. Same goes for any new track for the bass or keyboards. How do i avoid this without having to plug the guitar in yet another input? How do i seperate the guitar on 2 or more tracks with 1 input.

Ok even more simple. Let's say your audio interface only has 1 single input. How the hell do you record 10 tracks with it. Because every new track will pick up the same guitar. So it will pick up the guitar rig from every single track instead of just the one you're working on.
