Hello,
VST plugins (for all brands) are not translated correctly. For example, the NI VST (example Kontakt 5), there are three entries that have the same name. You will say that we can change them manually, but every update, the default name comes back, it's painful;-)

Same here, I used to rename them with correct nr of channel ouputs but got tired of doing so and got used to look at the bottom of the browser window to see their nr of ouputs and drag in the one I need... "You'll get used to it" ;)

It didn't change on me (this time) when I updated Platinum. But I just renamed main one I use (not 8 or 16) to Kontakt Norm.

I wonder if the # has something to do with it. IOW, try some other clue besides a number, i.e. A,B,C
I'll try this myself . I am going to try Kontakt B for 8 and Kontakt C for 16. I'll report back after an update which shouldn't be long these days.

you can change this in the cakewalk.ini file

VSTPlugInNameFormat=
<0 - 3>
Integer
0
This variable specifies how VST plug-in names are formatted in the Browser, FX Rack context menus, and anywhere else VST plug-in names are displayed. The values are as follows:
0 = VST Name
1 = DLL Name
2 = VST Name (DLL Name)
3 = DLL Name (VST Name)

You might find this thread useful:

I don't think this is a Sonar issue, other plugins don't seem to have this issue.

Cheers...

would be nice, and also maybe diffuse confusion, if this (and other ini changes) could be done via preferences dialog (and yes i do realise that some can be changed that way)

This is one that you can in preferences under the initialization file menu.

The 3 different versions of Kontakt are OK. They are 3 different things:

- Kontakt 5
- Kontakt 5 8out
- Kontakt 5 16out

Also, they are in order (by default unless you change that) what I mean is The 1st Kontakt in VST list is the normal one (for me anyway stereo I guess) 2nd one is Kontakt 8 , 3rd one is Kontakt 16.

Still, I have to try swamptooths recommendation-sounds good.
