Funny, mine are 8 16 then stereo unless i specify the option.

I kinow this is more about Kontakt itself, but may help to clear confusion over the differences between the three dll Kontakt files:
 

sorry...had to sign in with my "new" sso account, so I can't post links just yet. Basically "Kontakt" has 12 stereo outputs and 40 mono to total 64 outputs..."Kontakt 16" has 5 stereo outputs and 6 mono outputs to total 16 outputs..."Kontakt 8 " has 4 stereo outputs, no mono outputs to total 8 outputs. CPU is not that different between them. This is also in the manual for Kontakt.

I don't think NI is the only one that does this; Plogue Bidule does the same thing listing numerous iterations of the vst with various I/O properties.
