So I'm testing out Bandlab Sonar and I'm recording a midi synth. I was surprised to see both midi and the audio output being recorded. Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks,
Timbo

No, CbB can record MIDI, audio or both from a synth plug-in. Synth audio recording was added some time back.

I made a tutorial about using MIDI in Sonar and this has not changed in the CbB version, so you might sort things out by reading is. See my signature for the link.
There is also the regular documentation files and lots of Video's too.

I'm from the X3 world. Thanks you guys. Both tracks get armed, and the audio track has a R button that X3 doesn't.

I'll read up, thanks!

Thanks for the terrific tutorial Johnny. You obviously put an enormous amount of work into it and it is very useful.

For anyone who finds this thread in the future, check Johnny's work out as well as this from the documentation, which I found "post post": https://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=SONAR&language=3&help=SoftSynths.27.html

Thanks, Yes it was a lot of work but in the long run it saves me time as to not have to repeat the same information over and over in helping people on the forum. I'm going to add another couple of pages with topics for things like using Track Templates and Recording audio.
Trouble with Sonar is there is always more than one way to do the same thing.
I find a lot of the other tutorials are overly complicated so I'm trying to keep it simple.
